Carpenter, J. Miller. Botom Row: C. Brockel- bank, V. Wolford. The person who makes the initial reception into the Dickinson circle for each new Dickinsonian is his student counselor. The responsibilities of the student counselor commence with the freshmen orientation program. However, the task of the counselor is more than just the handling of the formal orientation program. His advice to the counselee and his behavior toward him set the tone for the overall orientation which any incoming student must make in making the transition into the college environment. The student counselor knows no limits to his responsibility to the freshmen. He has been delegated to assist him with any and all problems, whether they be academic or social. The student counselor is, therefore not only a friend but also a chief confident for his counselees.

Founded in 1789, the group meets twice a month to discuss current events while practicing customary parliamentary procedure. Unified with the Intercollegiate Conference on Govern- ment in 1951, the Union Philosophical Society represents Dickinson each year at the intercollegiate conventions which work as model state legislatures. This year they attended conventions at Harrisburg and Hershey. Among other activities, the group had two'political speakers, one from each party, talk at their meetings. Z 11 H .
