One reason we, the senior class of 1963, have had a happy school life is because of one certain person. First of all, We think of her as an expert Home Economics teacher, doing her work with dignity and pride. Not only is she Home Economics teacher but she also teaches Biology, with the hope that we will learn. She is a person to whom you can go with your problems and always depend upon a straight answer. She allows everyone his right of opinion, and she is always. a very understanding person. We are proud to say we have had the privilege of knowing her, and we would like to show our appreciation to her by dedicating our 1962-63 yearbook, THE h WILDCAT, to Mrs. Edwin Blankenship., The Senior Class Qi. EDWIN BLANKENSHIP Principal Dibrell High School 1962 1963 To The Students of Dibrell School With the closing of this school year, which we believe has been a successful one, students, you must realize that the element of competition is greater than a year ago . Because of the rapid population increase we must assume that with the passing of each year this competitiveness will present a major problem to each of you. Therefore, it becomes necessary for you to accept more responsibility in early life in order to be able to solve more complex problems in later life. The world in which we live today with tremendous progress being made in all occupational fields, you must gain more knowledge in a shorter period of time than in years past. Education is growing day by day, and any time not spent wisely can never be regained. We considered ourselves very lucky to have lost only two players from graduation, but still we were a very inexperienced group. Our main team consisted of: Yalta Gay and Mary Knowles: seniors, Elladean Tittsworth: junior, Elaine McCormack, Iudy Hildreth, and Carol Parker: sophomores. There were other girls who, performed on the floor throughout the season, they were: Jean Cantrell and Eva Bratcher: sophomores, Iudy Watts, Iane-Gribble, Betty Glenn, Wanda Greene, Barbara Moore, and Carol Hendrix: freshmen. We had two captains, namely: Mary Knowles and Yalta Gay. Por the opening game we tackled Liberty. Luck was against us that night, two of our main players were suffering with the flu. When the final whistle blew, we were behind 6 points. Our next game was with Spencer, and it was a thriller. It was nip and tuck from the first tick of the clock to the last gong. We were downed by the Spencer Eaglettes 27-28 . We had other games like this throughout the season. Our record for the season was 6 wins and 18 defeats. We are proud of this record considering that we played teams with higher ratings than us in the past. Our high scorer for the season was Yalta Gay with 336 points. She ranked 7th in the District. Cne obstacle that We encountered was Eva Bratcher's appendectomy. This crippled the Wildcats for the last part of the season. In the Warren County tournament we had two girls chosen as All-Tournament players: they were: Mary Knowles and Yalta Gay. We feel there were some very outstanding players wearing the Wildcats' uniforms the past season, and we are leaving it up to them to bring the record up in the future. As the 16th District Tournament rolled around we were to play the Morrison Eaglettes. Luck was with us, we downed them 33-26. Our next game was with the City Rebels. In this game we were not so lucky and were defeated by 18 points. We would like to thank Coach Iimmy Blankenship for all his time and effort that he has put forth. I have enjoyed very much being on his team and would like to wish him all the luck in the future years. They had lost three players from the previous year and had gained four, so the future was looking good for this season. This year's squad consisted of one senior: Iames Dexter: five juniors: Ioe Grissom, Burton Jones, Gary L. Adcock, Jerry Foster, and Billy Sutton: four sophomores Billy Brown, Stanley Cantrell, Gary D. Adcock, and Iohn Herman: and four freshmen: Iimmy Crutcher, Terry Bennett, Phil Bennett, and Otis.Martin. These boys were being directed by a fine coach, Mr. Jimmy Blankenship. Coach Blankenship's starting lineup consisted of four juniors and one sophomore, but it was soon changed. A freshman walked in to the starting lineup. The Dibrell Wildcats were seated second for the County Tournament and went to the finals where they were defeated by McMinnville Central. We had two All-tourna- ment players chosen from the Wildcats' squad, they were Toe Grissom and Burton Iones. Along about the time of the County Tournament we had another player to be- come a member of the Dibrell Wildcats' squad. This boy was Junior Ralph, a player, who has strengthened the team tremendously. After the County Tournament the Wildcats met two good teams, Red Iarrell's Red Raiders and Coach Martin's Spencer Eagles and were defeated twice in a row. Then they went to working harder and won six games straight. The Smithville Tigers knock- ed them off of their winning streak, then they were defeated by Central. Finally the Wildcats were ready for their last scheduled game for the season which was- with Grundy County. Boy, was this game a thriller! The Wildcats played the best first half that they had played the whole season. The game finally ended with the Wild- cats defeating Grundy by a margin of 10 points. As the 16th District Basketball Tournament rolled around the Wildcat's first game was with Grundy County. The boys knew that they were going to have really to work hard in order to beat the Yellow Iackets, since they had already beaten them twice in a row. Finally the time came and the Wildcats defeated the Yellow Iackets once again by a margin of 10 points. The Wildcat's next game was with the Red Raiders in the semi-finals. ln' this game the Wildcats were not so lucky and were defeated 64 to 33. Coach Jimmy Blankenship has done a fine job with these boys this year, so both Coach Blankenship and the Wildcats are looking forward to their future year of basket- ball. They have set an example this season of 1962-63 that will never be forgotten. By: Danny Adcock wx 'X 4 XX X1 :f l xx Xiffffff ae 'fkvif X . 'K fx 'V X14 X I XX?
