The Wildcats As the tall weather rolled around the girls and boys of the Wildcat squads were busy learning the funda- mentals of basketball because most of our experienced team members had graduated the year before. We opened our season by playing Liberty. The girls took a rousing victory, but the boys met defeat. This year's teams were rather lucky in the iniury department, coming through with only a few minor iniu- ries. Our greatest handicap was inexperience, and it cropped out many times during the season. We played many games in which we lost by only a point or two. lf we had had experience, it might have been a different score. The girls' season record was 4 wins and l6 losses. The boys did better coming through with a record of 9 wins and ll losses. At the Sixteenth District Tournament our boys went down in their opening game to powerful Grundy County, winners of the Tournament. The girls did a bit better when they pulled the upset of the Tournament by defeating third seeded Morrison. By winning this game they went into the semi-finals against the Manchester Red Raiderettes, who defeated us by a large margin, thus ending our basketball season. We are sure that the teams will agree with us when we say that we have the best coach in the County. We would also like to extend our congratulations to the Cheerleaders on a iob well-done. Our high scorers for the year were: Boys: Paul Hildreth, 245 points and Larry Cope with 229. Girlsg Yalta Gay 255 points and Brenda Hendrix with l4O. We placed two girls on the All Tournament Team, they were Curlene Preston and Yalta Gay. Best wishes to all the future Wildcats. By Janie Moore And Glenn Gill
