On that moment both places felt thesting ot an unseen blow, once which will live forever in the hearts ot those who were there. For Pearl Harbor it was the at- tack which led to World War H. However, for Diboll it saw the end of something that many of the oomrnunity's 2,000 fans had long hoped for, a third region baseball crown and a perfect sea- son. It was the Shelbyville Dragons, who coming into the game sport- ed'a '5-5 record, one that unde- feated teams wouldn't take so seriously. have shown that they are still champs because they never However, when it was all over at 4:54, the end of Dibo1l's 14- game winning streak had come. The numbers on the scoreboard read 4-1 in favor of the visiting Shelbyville nine. However, it was the part of er- rors that meant the difference ir the sudden death playoff for Er- vin Dubose's Lumberjacks. Hit- ting was the weak point for both sides. Only six hits were added into the scorebook, three for botl: sides. And of the six hits, four were doubles. Larry Goins, one of Diboll's two main hurlers began the per- formance for Dubose. He only lasted one and a third inning al- lowing one rim on one hit with one walk being added against him. Goins was charged with the loss. An error and a hit scored Shelby- ville's first run in the first inning to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Shel- byville was the home team due to a previous meeting. The 'Jacks tied the score in the second frame on almost the iden- tical procedure that Shelbyville pulled. Bobby Ramsey took pos- session of the initial sack via the error route. Drayton Solly' made up for his miscue by smashing a double into right tield sending Ramsey to third. After Robert Fenley flied out Benny Capps grounded out with Ramsey scor- ing on the play and Solly moving to third. Two more errors and a hit plus a walk, stolen base, and a- sacri- rice added two additional runs for the Dragons in the second inning. The last run came in the fifth in- ning on one hit, stolen base, and a pair of errors. 'I'he biggest threat that Diboll made to tying the score was in the sixth frame. Don Hendricks walked and later Billy Pate doubled sending Hendricks to third. This was followed by Ram- sey's walk which loaded the bases and one out. However, the 'Jacks were retired without adding the necessary runs. Q 392522255 E ISE-GBQR-Sm n IW-.2 ,g 315 ' 'O 'Fo 23:51 51: :i'.?.H.
