Our hand stood at attention wait- ing for the signal to declare our entrance onto the field. The whistle blew and with athundering drum roll the Diholl Lumberjack Band was march- ing for a first division. As they marched, keeping alert to every command, the spirit of our school never seemed more real. After they came from the field there was a tense waiting. Student Council was organized in the 1956-'57 school year. Its membership consists of a student elected president, the class president from each junior and senior high school class, and one council representa- tive elected from each class. Telford, Billie Camp, Travis Parker, Dale Staton, Ruth Busby Since small projects are initiated through- out the year, the council undertakes only one big activity yearly. The area IX meeting WHS held in Luf- kin this spring. The theme of the meeting was 'F.ll.A. This Is Your Life' ln the fall the girls attended the State Fair in Dallas and in the spring the Houston Fat Stock Show. As a service project the girls provided stamped Christmas cards for the patients at Rusk State Hospital for their use at Christmas time. They also assisted the Future Nurses Club in making Easter favors for the hospital. During F.H.A. Week, shrubbery and red roses, the F. H. A. flower, were planted on our campus. Our theme for the year was 'Aid to the Public-Through Public Schools. The highlight of our work v.as a trip :nade to the State Mental Hospital in Rusk. A well- planned program was presented there, and the results were successful. We wish to thank everyone who furthered the interests of this organization, and espe- cially our directors, Mrs. Sneed and Mr. Point.
