b' m- Racial Differences Hey, is your girlfriend Mexi- can? Nope, White. Doesn't that bother you?,' Nope.'l Well, don't the other guys stick it to you? Nope, racial differences make no difference at DH-J. They fthe people who countl said that DH-J was a racial mix. Our enrollment was 64070 Hispanic, 26070 white, 870 black and 201: Asian. Our figures weren't typical of America in 1986-but then nei- ther was our attitude about race. We were color blind. We saw people not as black, white, brown, or yellow, but as friends and teach- ers. Some of our parents criticized us for having friends that came from different backgrounds, but we knew that they were true friends, people we could count on. They not only taught us to persevere, they taught us to hope. Wwfi N -1 W sigh ft! gl.. , , , ..,..., ..,,s..M:A.,.:,- .,, A.. ey! It's Party Time Thank God It's Friday! This was a common saying among the students of DH-J. They were ready to get out of school and head on down to the local meeting spot or the hottest party being planned for that weekend. Taking a day off didn't always mean partying around on the week- end. To some people, it meant tak- ing a breather from class ltransla- tion: SKIPPINGD Although some didn't get caught, others did and paid a pretty steep price for their mistakes. Skipping wasn't a very big issue this year, maybe because of the hall monitor that patrolled the halls as thoroughly as possible, but for most partying was the BIGGEST issue around. Partying like all good things at DH-J was traditional, and everyone fought to keep it that way. TOP RIGHT: Uninvited guest Jonetta Gon- zalez sponges a ride to the party from Lisa Cooper.
