Changes Spark Controversy Diamond Hill has an excellent history and strong traditions, said Dr. Madell Bailey, DH-Jfs new prin- cipal. Our job is to strengthen those traditions, she continued, speaking in regard to the policy changes made this year at school. Hall sweeps were unpopular but did the trick. Kids began getting to class on time. And students didn't like being told not to munch in the halls dur- ing lunch, but the school stayed clean. Pep Rallies, for the first time in recent memory were held at 7:40 lin the A.M.l and were seldom at- tended by more than 100 students. To complain about that, however, you had to write your congress- man. lt was House Bill 72 which put a limit on assemblies. The state legislature also decid- ed who could wear our school col- ors on the football field fand the volleyball court, and the baseball diamond, and the track, etc . . . l. BOTTOM RIGHT' No Pass-No Play didn't stop us from watching-just from playing. the game. It required kids to pass all subjects before participating in extracurricular activities. Of course, there were up sides to both the school policy and the state policy. On the one hand, shorts were finally considered appropriate dress at school, and on the other hand, workouts 'and rehearsals were shortened per state law. In the end, school remained sometimes tedious and sometimes exciting just as it had always been. Now that's tradition for you.

-. A Passion For Fashion l In the beginning, there was the fig leaf. Back then, no one knew that clothing was supposed to do more than protect you from the ele- ments .. Now, of course, it's a well known fact that clothes are sup- posed to represent personality as well as pop eyes. Most DH-Jers just dressed com- forably - jeans and T-shirts, khaki's and sweats. It's better to feel good than look good cited Toan Dinh. Some, however, put their com- fie's in moth balls this year. Style ' reigned supreme. Polos, Topsiders, Calvins, Nikes, jams, stirrup pants, 0.P.s, Reeboks, crop pants, jellies fand the list goes onl were the rage - THE OUTRAGE! Even parents were surprised when their teenagers opted for psy' chodellic paisley pants, reminiscent of Woodstock. Faculty members certainly were unaccustomed to seeing students in shorts. And as always, students were un- accustomed to seeing other stu- dents wearing identical threads . . . TOP RIGHT? Fashion isn't Mrs. Morales passion. lt's Diana Charles'.
