There was a loud thud as the wheels touched. Before the eyes of the older membersof Diagonal High there appeared twenty-one green and inexperienced freshmen. Our Co-Pilots for the year were Mrs. Ina Thompson, T. C. Thompson, Miss Liedorff, and Don Moore. The crew for the year were Darlene Adkisson, Eldon Adkisson, Marjorie Bagley,James Buchanan, Arlene Butt,Roland Cregeen, Sandra Dalbey, 7, Marion Gardner, Phillip Keller, Loren Miller, . Betty Overholser, Dean Overholser, Ruth Pine, Clara Reynolds, Jerry Schlapia, Joann Schmitt, Robert Staats, Helen Taylor, and Donna Wiley. X L In the fall of '50 one of the first activ- '1 ities on our freshmen flight was the election of class officers. They were as follows: Jerry Schlapia, Pres- ident, Sandra Dalbey, Vice President, Arlene Butt, Secretary: Helen Taylor, Treasurer. We were subjected to a test flight in the way of an initiation. We settled down to school life with Marjorie Bagley parachuting out over Benton High. Before we knew it, the first flight was over. 11 In the fallof 1951 we gained two crew mem- bers, Geneva Parkins and Raymond Turner, and SUPll0HUllf5g, lost Ruth Kilgore. The new Co-Pilots were Jg,,-f Wilbur Miller and Miss Ruth Miller. We had , of the pleasure of initiating the 'Sl freshmen, and many of our crew were in the Senior play because that year's Senior class was so small. Our class officers were: Jerry Schlapia, President, Clara Reynolds,Vice President: Helen Taylor, Secretary, and Betty Over- holser, Treasurer. Before we realized it, our D-SN was again circling for its landing at Diagonal High. This time we landed with twenty-one crew members, having gained Bennie Skinner and Reba Watts, but Betty Overholser, Helen Taylor, and Raymond Turner parachuted out Our class officers for this year were: Raymond identg Helen Taylor, Secretary, and Sandra Dalbey, Treasurer. Interesting sights seen during this flight were a series of three one-act plays and prep- aration of the Junior-Senior Banquet. We dec- orated the hanger in a theme centered around VFa1rylandn. The flight had a new Co-Pilot, Wallace Gardner. Turner, President: Clara Reynolds, Vice Pres- All too soon the D-SN circled for its fourth and final land-. ing. As we walked down the steps from the plane, we had dwindled to a crew of 19. The only new Co-Pilot we had this flight was Harry Bethards. The class officers were: Eldon Adklsson, Pres- ident, Donna Wiley, Vice Presldentg Arlene Butt, Secretary, and Sandra Dalbey, Treasurer. The events held during this flight werei e Senior play, called nHillbilly Wedd1n'H5 the Junior-Senior Banquet, a huge success: the Senior Education Trip to Kansas City: and Career Day. Halloween was celebrated by an all-h1gh-p school party given by the Seniors. The class entertained themselves at a group of parties ,V including a weiner roast, attendance at a Jun-gl ior College play, a 3D and a drive-in movie. f There was much participation by the crew in activities, such as: the Diagonal band having four Senior members, four members were in basketball, and there were three cheerleaders from the crew. The whole class was active in preparing the flight log, Au Revoir. Suddenly we found that we were at the end of our flight and ready for graduation. N Class Will we, the Senior class of 1954, grant to our successors as Seniors all the rights and privileges traditionally enjoyed by Seniors. Each of us makes the following grants of our most treasured possessions: I, Loren Miller, bestow upon Condon Graham the right to complete my bookkeeping work book. I, Boland Cregeen, will to Larry Schlapla the right to stay out late at night and to Dick Teply the right to dream of girls with blonde hair. 1, James Buchanan, give t0Bol1and Bloker the ability to get along with the teachers. I, Darlene Adkisson, will my office hours to Janice Clouse. I, Sandra Dalbey, bestow my great ability to drive a car l??????l on Marlene Kessler, who needs to learn to drive better. I, Jerry Schlapia, give my ping-pong ability to the boy known as Marlin Bloker. I, Reba watts, give my crown as queen of the band back to the band to grant to the one most deserving next year. I, Clara Reynolds, present my four years of cheerleading to Janelle Taylor. I, Ruth Pine, will my running around and getting away with it to Marlene Kessler. I, Ben Skinner, give my stock of funnles to Dick Teply, so that he may entertain the Senior Class of 1955. I, Arlene Butt, present to David Wiley my chair in the band. I, Marlon Gardner, give my ability to drive to Dick Taylor. I, Joann Schmitt, present my typing paper to Condon Graham. I, Phillip Keller, will to Bob Pine my ability to continue to grow in height every year. I, Calvin Klmberlln, will my short hair to James Munslnger. I, Bob Staats, bestow my marching aptitude on Bud Brown, who I hope will follow in my footsteps. I, Donna Lee Wiley, give the unused portion of my government book to Kay Allen to do with lt as she pleases. I, Eldon Adkisson, will my ability to operate an old 'Chevle' to Condon Graham. I, Marjorie Bagley, bestow my piano playing ability onto Myrtle Hollinger. P. A., it is our policy not to divulge in- formation about our work or our clients. Howeven since it has been requested by higher authority, we have relented and are forwarding the information. After months of research, we have gathered the following in- formation about the graduates of 1954. At the conclusion of many weeks of mental toil we picked up a newspaper whose headlines read WCalvin Kimberlin, Vice Presidentn. As we were walking down Diagona1's main boulevard, we met a woman carrying two bawling brats. with a start, we recognized Sandra Dalbey, now a farmer's wife. We met Bennie Skinner, captain of the atomic warship, U. S. S. Skinner, now docked in Grand River Port. We had a long chat with himo Robert Staats, a high-ranking officer in the National Guard, has married a glamorous TV star. M rjorie Bagley is a Professor at Diagonal University and has just completed revising Einstein's Theory. Her work at Diagonal U. doesn't keep her from hitting all As we went to the north end we met Marion Gardner, proprietor Service. Clara Reynolds has lived up now being manager of the Reynolds the night clubs with her husband. of town to get some atomic fuel of the Skelly Super-Sonic Special to her high standards of service, Aluminum Corporation, howeven she is still an old maid. Jerry Schlapia went to college and graduated with high honors. He now has a high paying job in the Reynolds Aluminum Corporation. He also hopes to get a higher position in the company before long. We finally got the low-down on Darlene Adkisson who married a tall, dark, and handsome man. She is now residing with this fine worthy in a bungalow for two in the East. As everybody had predicted, Eldon Adkisson and Donna Lee Wiley got married. Eldon didn't live up to his prediction, he is still a farmer. He's made a lot of money though, as he bought out Elmer Reece lock, stock, and barrel. Phillip Keller now owns and operates the Keller Super Plymouth Company of Diagonal. He's made a lot of money these past years though. So much in fact that he is now driving a Cadillac. Ruth Pine is now married and has lot of upulln in the commun- ity. You see, she and her husband own and operate a dairy farm. Roland Cregeen never got married. He owns a big farm near Clearfield, however, and drives a pickup. He still goes to town, and, as he puts it, has fun. James Buchanan has made a career out of the Air Force. He is a top man around the base. YOu see, he's a master Mechanic. During our research we came across the information about Reba Watts. After many trips abroad and other pleasures, she is now operating a cafe in this fair city. It is known as Reba's Restaur- ant. Oh, yes, one more detail. She is married and has four kids. We came across word working as a nurse. This She sometimes has as many once. Last, but not least, of Arlene Butt, finally. It seems she is is where she has it over the other girls. as 15 or 20 babies to look after all at we arrived at the information about Joann Schmitt. According to the records, she is working in the now small high school of Creston, fulfilling her secret ambition. As she had to go to college to get the training for this field, she is well qualified. You see, she is now Driver's Training Instructor. Having secured the requested information for our client, who, by the way, is a teacher fthe poor sucker? in the Diagonal School system, we will now take a much needed rest. A large crowd, which declared the play a success, was present. The play dealt with nBashful Bobn Brantley who had a bad case of femalephonia and so shied away from women as from poison. Then two days after coming to the city to live, he got himself engaged. To the wrong girl, too, through a strange twist of circumstances. The day he arrived in the city, he took a room in the home of Mrs. Mary Whitson, who laughingly called her home a marriage mart. With so many pretty girls and nice young men staying there, romance was sure to develop sooner or later. With Bob it was sooner. The unfortunate affair with the wrong girl was cleared up in time for him to kiss the right one when the curtain came down on the play. Every member of the Junior class had a role in the play. ,QFfEf,Q YW is K an xg , me Lx 4?L .Q Compliments of Diagonal Merchants mate Roawrs a wA'rsoN The 0 PQSITS FIRST smwrs BANK J. meaikea E1 45- ,W 1 , uwwmew msec Q Z!! As such we share in the tremendous task of feeding the American people and the people of the world. So that this job can be done increasingly well, agricultural me- thods are constantly being improved throughout the world. Everything done to improve agricultural practices in our community helps us to bet- ter carry our part of the farm program and at the same time it improves the living standards of everyone in the community. One area of school life in which the line between the community and the school tends to disappear is the field of agriculture. Every boy in an agricultural course in school will be in the years ahead a better farmerg his farm will be a better farmg his community will be a better community. Agriculture in the school can, moreover, be part of the community's present as well as future. Working hand his home can put into practice what is farming practices.
