After two long weeks of transit from Pearl we entered the San Bernadino Straits and began to wind our way between the Philip- pine Islands on our way to Subic Bay, on the West Coast of the Island of Luzon. It was a hot, lazy afternoon, and we were all feeling the drag of long days and nights of continous steaming. Finally the next day we entered Subic, our home po-rt for the remainder of our cruise. And we all became acquainted with the homey and picturesque little Philippine community of Olongapo, flower of the South Pacific.
