The “Vigil” of strenuous practice was over and the curtain rose on the Nov. 19 premiere of the DHS fall musical, “Snoopy.” For two evening performances and a Sunday matinee, receptive audiences laughed, cried, and applauded as Greg Summers managed to “Sit Up, Roll Over, and Play Dead” in his title role of Snoopy.” His best friend, the indecisive “Charlie Brown,” was played by Allen Gelfius with Stephanie DuBois as his sweet little kid sister, “Sally.” Tracy Wheeler was the epitome of the obnoxious “Lucy Van Pelt” and Mike Glenn came well-equipped with his security blanket and faithful thumb for the role of “Linus,” Karen Sedlacek and Sandra Cantrell shared the role of “Peppermint Patty” in alternate performances as did Theresa Layton and Kim Smith as that big bird of “The Clouds,” “Woodstock.” The play is about a very special dog with human characteristics. It takes a humorous, yet sensitive, look at life. “Snoopy” is a remarkable blend of serious thought, humor, and wonderful music. Directing the play was DHS drama instructor, Rhonda Steuver. Conducting the music were Mrs. Mary Ruth Boone and Mr. Michael Clippard, vocal and instrumental music instructors. The student director was Jaime Carmen. The main production number from the play was a song called “Don’t Be Anything Less Than Everything You Can Be.” Not only did the cast and crew of “Snoopy sing this song beautifully; they lived it each day. jin Snoopy: The Big Bow-Wow at DHS 18
