With a mixture of emotions, we’ll reflect upon the past; Holding dear the memories of years that went too fast. Of how we fought together for what we were denied, And though we didn’t always win, our Spirit never died! A Spirit that has carried us to where we stand today, Upholding our class honor in what we do and say. We’ll carry high above our heads the banished virtue — Trust; Because of past experience, it’s now refused to us. But when we have departed, we’ll leave no trace behind, Except the deep respect we'll win, in every person’s mind. Throughout the silent echoes in the halls it will be true. A warmly kept remembrance for the CLASS OF ’82. BY — Debi Spaulding 2 Recognition Mrs. Dorothy Rankin is re- tiring this year after 31 years of teaching in the Dexter High School. We wish to thank her for her teaching dedication and to wish her much happi- ness in her retirement. Mrs. Dolores Stanislaw has been teaching at Dexter High School for 25 years. Class Motto — To live your life in your own way. To reach for the goals you have set for yourself To be the you that you want to be . . . That is Success. The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost In Memory 204 Deborah Jane Doerscheln December 31, 1965 January 26, 1982 In this fast-moving world of turmoil and tension, With problems and troubles, too many to mention, Our days are so crowded and hour hours are so few, There's So Little Time and So Much To Do ... And sometimes we wonder as we rush through the day, Does God Really Want Us to Hurry This Way? Perhaps we’re too busy with our own selfish seeking, To hear the dear Lord when He’s tenderly speaking, For God in His mercy looks down on us all, And Through what we’ve done is so pitifully small, He makes us feel welcome to kneel down and pray For the chance to do better as we start a new day .. . And life would be better if we learned to rely On our Father in heaven without asking “Why” And if we’d remember as we meet each new day, “The Lord Is Our Shepherd and He’ll Lead The Way ... So rather than rushing in reckless endeavor, Remember “He Leadeth” and “Time Is Forever! Helen Steiner Rice We are not afraid of tomorrow, for we have seen yesterday and have lived today. 208
