DHS Highlights Include Food Tasting Banquet Michael Hardy's second drama production for 74-75 featured John Capps as the great astrologer Ptolemy in the play You Were Born on a Rotten Day. Many students acted in the play and many others created the spectacular stage setting which featured all of the signs of the zodiac. Early in the year, special activities included a Get Acquainted Dance sponsored by student council and a special performance by three DHS faculty members during the pep rally for football homecoming. Second semester world geography students invited a Para-gould, Arkansas teacher, Rachel Prince, to speak at the annual Food Tasting Banquet on May 15, 1975 at the DHS cafeteria. Mrs. Prince showed slides and talked about her experiences in India where she lived for nine weeks during the summer of 1974 as a Fulbright Scholar. Dorothy Rankin's fourth hour class prepared the food which included such dishes as sweet-sour beef, Mexican chicken, chocolate covered pretzels, and rosettes. 22

Students and Faculty Participate in Special Activities DHS art students heard a guest speaker, Judy Perkins, discuss her art work, painted trash barrels with bicentennial designs, and completed macrame and tole painting projects. During May, each senior Art II or III student presented a one-man art show. Being a senior means making countless decisions. The seniors of 1975 chose their class motto, flower, and colors during one of their meetings, (See senior section, page 39). Later in the year, blue announcements were ordered from Herff-Jones representative, Charles Brandon. Beginning in December, students and especially faculty started the first steps in DHS North Central Evaluation. In preparation for the visiting committee in December, 1975, each department held periodic meetings in order to prepare a report on the curriculum. Also involved were several community members. The North Central Association is one of several accrediting associations for high schools in the United States. In preparation for the next school year, class elections for officers and student council representatives were held in May. A new student body president, Joy Smith, was elected on May 8. 24
