1970 REVEILLE OF DEXTER SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL DEXTER, MISSOURI TWENTY-FIFTH EDITION 1970- THE YEAR THAT WAS '« . ■ ‘ ‘ ‘ N ' , ’ .. ' ■ +': j k ,.Wt . «• I ar • Ss£L ■ Vl‘ 4 1970- This is the year that was... There were hours, days, nights, and weeks that divided this year-1970. It was the year of County Basketball champs, Junior Magazine Sales, computerized grades, no exemptions, beating Sikeston and Poplar Bluff, co-educational physical education classes and the beginning of a new decade. . . It was the day of graduation, cadette teaching, car parades, and the Ohio Psychological Test. . . It was the week of exams, the Regional tournament, and spirit week. . . Then there were the nights-Homecoming, football games, the bon-fire, “The Miracle Worker”, and watching man take the first step on the moon... It was the hour of the physics test, a club meeting, independent study, submitting college applications, the Jazz assembly, and the pep rally. . . To some 1969-1970 was just another school year but to many D. H. S. students the year holds many memories. Memories of time spent cheering the Bearcats on to victory, talking to that “special friend” on the phone, hoping for a date for the weekend, talking about the week-end happenings on Monday morning in the lobby, circling the Dairy Queen, studying for comprehensive semester exams, walking down the aisle to receive that diploma or crying on the last day of school. All the memories of this the year that was will never be forgotten. Each will fade but will return colored anew by the dye of time. Students will remember that Dexter High played a large role in the production called life. The 1970 Reveille Staff sincerely hopes they have accomplished their goal of helping you to recall the many memories of one year-1970 the year that was. 3 D.H.S. We, like mapy o ier classes, remember her as our sophomore class sponsor who wilRfcgty gufded us through our years at D. H. S. Although, we the seniors 1970, will soon be leaving our high school years behind it will take more than time to erase the memory of the respect and admiration we have gained for Mrs. Toner. DEDICATION DEXTER JAYCEES In each community there can usually be found organizations dedicated to service. The Dexter Jaycees are such a group. It is for their efforts to improve the community as a whole and especially for the help and understanding given to the teenagers of the area that we, the 1970 Reveille Staff, have chosen to dedicate this annual to the Dexter Jaycees. Their many varied and worthwhile projects include: a $4,000 pledge to the Dexter Memorial Hospital, construction of the Municipal swimming pool, the Jaycee Home Show, supplying Thanksgiving baskets to the needy, the Jaycee courtesy car, an annual Gospel Sing, sponsoring teen dances, a $50 donation to any area family who loses their home by fire, and many other projects. We would like to take this opportunity to say “Thank you, Jaycees” for all your efforts toward community improvement. 8 OFFICERS President - Charles Kruse 1st Vice-President - Ron Hall 2nd Vice-President - Denton Musgrave Treasurer - Don Powers Secretary - Larry Myers (not pictured) JAYCEE CREED We believe: That faith in God gives meaning and purpose to human life; That the brotherhood of men transcends the sovereignty of nations; That economic justice can best be won by free men through free enterprise; That government should be of laws rather than of men; That earth’s great treasure lies in human personality; And that service to humanity is the best work of life. 9 PRINCIPAL 11 BOARD OF EDUCATION Gladys Smithson Peggy Stoll Debbie Kestner Secretary to Mr. DeArman Bookkeeper Secretary to Mr. Hill J. So here’s a cheer for Dexter High School, For Dexter High School, our dear old high. Here’s to our classes, here’s to our lasses, Here’s to the lads they adore. Here’s to the Seniors so mighty, Juniors so flighty, Freshies and Sophomores. Let mirth and gladness, banish all sadness And as the days go by, you’ll find us ready, Steady, boosting for Dexter High. Soon for us will our school days be ended, The dreams of youth that fade so fast, But we know that our hearts oft will ponder In memory o’re scenes that are past. There are joys that will long be remembered And friendships too that ne’re can die Then here’s a cheer for Dexter High School, For Dexter High School, our dear old high. THE DOOR TO THE FUTURE by Connie Bennett As Freshman we walked the halls with confusion, We looked to the future with starry eyed illusions. We lived day to day in learning and wonder, We sought understanding and questions and answers. As Sophomores we gazed on a world of new freedom This school was our home—D. H. S. was our kingdom. We paved many trails and found a new life worth living And found peace and joy in the treasure of giving. As Juniors we learned what life was about We explored our emotions both inside and out. We toiled and slaved and we worked as a team; Trying to reach the impossible dream. As Seniors we stepped through a door to the future With memories behind of the love and the laughter. We cross the wide threshold with tears in our eyes— With sadness we whispered our final good-byes. 1970 JUNIORS OFFICERS President—Mike McCoy Vice-President—Pam Evans Secretary-Treasurer—Kathy Coleman Reporter—Sue McCanne Sponsors—Mrs. Parmenter Mrs. Smith 138 Charlotte Adams Karen Allen Lisa Anderson Debbie Backfisch Marcella Bader Betty Baker Richard Barber Doris Barks Terry Battles Phillip Belcher JUNIORS CAN FINALLY CALL THEMSELVES UPPERCLASSMEN Delbert Bishop Brenda Bissel Joan Bockhold Janet Brown David Burnett Kristi Capps Dennis Carlton Bessie Cates Marcia Caudle Mike Chasteen Dennis Christian Mike Clark Stephen Clark Nancy Coffey Vicki Coffey 139 JUNIORS ARE ACTIVE AT D.H.S.
