Board Of Education We are sorry the Pres. Mr. C. A. Powell was unable to have his picture made because of Illness. —2— Our Superintendent I, The public school is an essential factor in a democracy. Our pioneering statesmen recognized this and stressed it at every oppor- tunity. It has survived many battles, some of them national in scope If our democracy is to survive, the public school must be maintained and kept under the control of the people. Like many other good things which were fought for by our fore- fathers and which we are enjoying today the public schools are in danger of being taken for granted. We must not lessen our efforts to meintain the good things which our forefathers gave us through even greater efforts. Democracy thrives on enlightenment. Communism and other dictator- ships thrive on ignorance. We can preserve our way of life only by education of the masses of our people. This can come about only if we have adequate public support, and at the same time local control of the public schools. LADDIE SMITH Librarian Junior Advisor NORMA MYffiS Art MARTCI. Junior Activities The Junior class started out with 89 members. Others huve entered and dropped since then. As soon as the football season opened, the class started making money by selling candy, hotdogs and coffee. This project was carried on throughout the ball season. In addition, our rummage sale netted us a nice profit. On Fridays during December, January, and February, the class sold sandwiches which proved to be quite successful. The highlight of the year was the play The Atomic Blonde which was presented November 17. This also in- creased the treasury. We had our Junior dance February Hj., which proved to be very successful. To climax a profitable and busy year, the annual Junior-Senior banquet and prom will be held May 4., 1951. —31— (null HHIAMAH Row Lydia Aitom, Jerry Cotner, Roger Critls, Nadine MQuJlQIIlUrGS Hu0y Charles Waiters, Sandra Cowsert, Sonny Jenkins, A Gloria Wilkey, John Turlington, Marjean MacDonald.
