To the other students in the school we have tried to give a record of what has happened through the eyes of the camera and in our writing. We hope that the book will provide the record of school life as we intended and that as you go through the portals here at Dexter you will remember this school year a little better because of the i955 LOG. FIIRWARD ln writing a forward to the 1955 LOG the staff would like to explain the theme. We have chosen Through These Portals because we feel that each segment of the book expresses some part of student life. The portals are the avenues of student activity: sportsp clubsp classesp and activ- ities. We have recorded some highlights from each of these phases as well as memories of the lighter side of our stay here at Dexter High School. The graduating class looks upon the book as a record of their senior year in high school. We have tried to show both the serious and fun sides of this year for them.

INIAIID 0F EIIUCATIIIN The Dexter Board of Education consists of five members: Mr. Carl Bates, president, Mr. Munnis Kenny, treasurer, Mr. Jack Bradbury, secretary, Mr. Earl Doletzky, trustee, and Mr. Neil Nixon, trustee. It is the function of this board to set the policy of the school system and to represent their electors in the establishment of a sound school pro- gram. This year a Citizens Committee of representatives from the service clubs and in- terested citizens has been formed to look into the possibility of future building and ex- pansion .
