Dexter again entered the throne room of the League of the Lakes as champions after a very rough and successful season under the co-captain leadership of Bob Long and Al Elsasser. At the end of the eight game season the team had marked to its credit well over two thousand yards against their opponents. The opponents' total score of only sixty points for the season was well surpassed by the Dreadnaughts total score of two hundred and fifty- one points. Perhaps we should not pass without saying a few words about how the team worked hard under the able direction of the coaches, Tom Stoddard and Ray Berry, to develop one of the outstanding football seasons in our school's history. All will remember the very exciting game with Chelsea whom we had not beaten in five years. Coming from behind at the half C14-75 the boys brought a sparkling victory home with the help of runs by Bob Long C80 yardsb and Norm Stoll C65 yardsb over our traditional foe by the score of thirty-one to twenty-one. In the second game of the season with Ida the team's passing attack was exceptionally good. Dexter's first touchdown was set up by Al El- sasser's run back of an intercepted pass. Although the final score was not outstanding the team played a hard game and worked together splendily. The squad was inspired to go on for a second touchdown in the Pinck- ney game after an interception by Mike 0'Malley on their twenty-seven yard line. The third touchdown came after an interception by Bill Walsh. During the game with South Lyon, Jim Eberts with his accurate passing hit Bob Long three times for touchdowns. One of the most spectacular plays of the season was made by Larry Young on a driving tackle. Young who was hurt on the play returned to action later in the season.
