CLASS HlS'I'0liY We as Semors of Dewey lllgh School wlsh to leave a memory of past wxth the underclassmen ln the years we have spent at Dewey we have many a memory lhappy and otherwlse We are now leavmg our dear h1 school days to go lnto the world to contlnue our educatlon or to work hoplng to be successful c1t1zens On September 1942 we were persuaded by one means or another to walk up the stalls and become members of the flrst grade Wlth the help of many teachers we were pushed through grade and hxgh school but we couldnt forget those beloved ones who helped us lmay they rest xn peace now that we are leavlng Our Flrst Grade teachers were Nllss 1ck and WllSb Huff who after trylng to cram knowledge into our small but actlve bralns sent us to Nlxss 'NlcCasl1n and 'Nhss Allen to try thelr hands at teachlng Soon 'lllss Payne and Nlrs Newton came to the rescue of the up and commg thlrd grade Soon we were advanclng hx er and hlgher and wlth thls came new teachers Nllss Xance and Xlrs Stockstxll lthey really were only new to u After a qulck lapse of txme we proceeded on to the fifth grade Wxth the flnal grade of Crade School we thought our troubles were over but we found out we had only begun Joyce Xlorrls and B111 'Nlaberry were the Carmval Queen and lung and with the help of Nlrs Stroud and llrs Xllson we fmally made It Ahl Jr lhgh at last Our flrst day ln Junlor lllgh was spent rambllng through the halls llke lost sheep lookmg for our rooms Finally after several days we adapted ourselves to the strange atmosphere Nlrs Jones and 'Nlr Bunch were se lected as our sponsors Patty Woodard and Bob Parker were elected Carruval een and lung Then came football homecomlng festlvltxes wxth Joyce Anne llarrls as Class een and Jxm John son as her escort We chose J Barry llarden as our lulghth Crade presxdent wlth Nlrs. lyner and Vlr Ova lfarrow as our sponsors Our larmval een and lung were Peggy Ashlock and Don Clark Sr H1 gh at last but then the bad news arrlvedl Dewey was then granted to have a standard Jr lllgh Nllckey llms led us through the year as our presldent w1th Nlrs lyner and 'Nlr barrow as sponsors Durlng our Freshman year we got to have our own Jr lllgh llomecomlng 'Nlerdell llc Whorter was elected ueen and lhll Nlaberry wxs Captaln Joyce Anne llarrls and I eorglabavellas were attendants to Nlerdell Along wlth the other new tradltlons we had started durlng the year we gotto havea breshman Day lhe entlre cl iss spent a full day at Crand lake At the end of our lareshman year we had our own graduatlon wlth dlplomas and alll Our Sophomore class presxdent wasB1ll lla berry Ceorgla Cavellas was laootball Class een and Cary Schooler was her escort Joyce -Xnne llaI'I'lS was Basketball flass een and Cllbert bdmxston was her escort C ary Schooler was Jumor Class l resldent and Nlrs lyner and Nlr Davidson were our sponsors Wxth the play and the banquet comlng off we were kept qulte busy but then on February 17 tragedy mg hand to show us the way through the rest of our hlgh school days l ootball Class een was Nlary l,ou larr1e and Cxlbert lfdmlston was her escort Mary Jane Wilhelm was Basketball Class Queen and Cll bert Edm1 ston was her escort blnally we became SPNIOHS We had Cary Schooler as our I resldent Nhss Coleman and Nlr llanklns were our class sponsors Joyce Anne llarrls was our lfootl all ueen wlth Cllbert Pd m1ston Captaln Patty Woodard and Ceorgla C1 vellas were her attendants Nlerdell VlcWhorter was Basketball een and Eugene Sprlnger Cap tam ller attendants were June Davls and Joyce XJOFFIS Our Senlor play was Seventeen ls Xwfully loung We chose to have a Senlor week lnstead of a Semor day On Vlarch 5 we took 1 fleld tmp to lulsa whlch was enjoyed by everyone Baccalaureate was held on llay 23 and Class nl t Nlay 25 On Nlay 27 1954 at 8 00 I' N1 ln the Dewey lllgh School I ym Commencement was held Ihls ends the history of the Senlor Class of 1954 V 7 . , .
