Under the direction of H. B. Means, who has guided the organization since 1939, the Dewey Band has made an envia- ble record, - one of which its school and community are justly proud. It all began when the Band 'went cowboy' in the summer of 1939. The full western garb donned that year by the .Q Q2 ,Q ' ? L ' 1 ,- 1 ei- 62 2 - we 'ig' .. -4 ?-- vi. fi 522 Band was so unusual that it incited widespread praise and favorable publicl- ty both at home and abroad. The group, since that time, has traveled a great deal, averaging 1,000 miles each year, An extensive and interesting selection of music, and a variety of field drills have added materially to the popularity of the Band. In November, 1941, the Band receiv- ed its new set of military uniforms, provided through the generosity of the Board of Education and Superintendent Clodfelter, who have been constant and helpful backers of the organization. These uniforms are of the finest quality obtainable, and their vivid red and white color combination lends brilliance and flash to the Band. As an integral part of our school and community life, the Dewey Band is constantly striving to maintain a high standard of musical efficiency, to serve as a vital community entertainment medium, and, above all, to help build fine young men and women. 4 Tonyu Mea Honorar, M mber Senior Band Serie lenle s Joan McDaniel Grace VcCrarY Billie Alice Harris Ruth Bowman Very Lou Vansant Jeannette Jones Waneta Kite Alyce Laird Belva Lee Roberson Louise Hacker Betty Jo hewman Ruth Kent Paul Gunter Earl Shriver Jimmie Calhoun Jack Wallace Georgann Toalson Betty Harmon Richard Chance Lesta Lee Lemmons Ethel Elliot Billy Johnson Perry Kountoupis Ray Amos Barbara Miller 'la1reH1nes Farlon Pallett Patty Gilson Andy Lon Dorothy enderson Betty Klewer Ray Jean Peterson John Popkess Jack Harris Herman McClure Dorothy Bale James McClure Calvin Glaibourne Bill Perry Jacn Gibbens Wallace Kite Gene Campbell Jimmie Shriver Howard Courtney Carl Smith Calvin Purdum Donald Parrott 7? 963 .Q , --X e 4 X Y b ' 'W E x - -T if ' Y 9' Al G - f sat 'H XID .43 1 :5 ' JEQZNIKDR AND The 28 piece Junior High School Band is one of txe most important unite of our school music department, because from its ranks must be taken the Senior Band members of tomorrow No instrumental music department can survive long without its 'feeder' band It is this group that must play endless lon tones and scales to build up their snill little by little A great deal and lit le or no glory is their this is the test that proves worth to the band Much credit students for their willingness and sometimes long in order to achieve a dis tant goal Dean Bale T Bale Bll Bowersock Elrer Delozier Paul Green Thomas Harris Charles Kietzman Orville Laniford Gerald Lelpold Homer Woser George Toalson Orville Webber Patty Bales Lavelle McClure Walter McGuire Dewayne Roberts Tom Smith and knowledge of hard work lot, and yet their future is due these to work hard Imogene Bowers Wanda Bowman Ann Carpenter Margie Johnson Ernestine Koester Mary Beth Koester Jo Ann Lemmons Barbara ncClune Mary Ruth Shlnn 105354 issue I!
