Elie Bnunhup SENIOR CLASS I-IISTOFQY It was nearly evening and the light in the main office wa growing dim The big office chair squeaked peev lshly as the editor swung around and glanced wearily at the clock while the door slammed on the heels of the latest Cub reporter Cub reporters were the occasion of much worry and language on the part of the editor especially this newest and he frowned impatiently as he flecked tentatively at a few dust particles on the littered desk The nerve of that darned kid' he burst out suddenly and a pr nter setting, type in an adjoining room looked surprisedly thru the open doorway to think his story was good enough for the front page of the Post And et his words trailed off hi., eyes sought an open window thru which a late afternoon sun poured length ening rays his eyes became dreamy h s thats reminis ent Ard yet he went on it was only fifteen years ago that I thot the same thing And beleive me I thot I had reason to think so too Let me see why' and the editor smiled whims cally I was a Senior in high school' hum m and only four years before that a Freshman Let me see this is 1930 s t was in 91 lt seem an age ago but I can see them now as if it were but yesterday Thirty three of us, as proud as peacocks as we sat there on the stage in the brightly lighted auditorium, school that gave witness that we had the required number of convolutions in our rains to enter what we thot then a new and wonderful land So the first year opened up and a new phase of school life was before us Fverything was new every thing wonderful except perhaps Algebra that was bewilder rg and discour qino to th most of us But we soon caught on to the various clownish tricks of Mr X and bade him do as we wished tho more than once he rebelled However we had back of us a good common school foundation ard with us a glorious ambition to attain much So with hard work and good fellowship and fun and frolic the year would have pasesd happily enough but for one ,ad incident Our beautiful new school buildirg burned and then we obtained a taste of the comforts and conveniences of our fore fathers who went to school in log cabirs that were lighted w th oiled paper windows and had rough split pine logs for seats Then it was a so that many of the twenty fell by the wayside and the law of the jungle was fulfilled that only the fittest survived And let me tell you we were flttest when the signal for school fights was out The next year came we were Sophomores but there were fewer than ever of us However we were none the less anxious to compete with our fellows tho they do say there is courage in numbers Then too we had passed New I itlli 111 5 lan 111 uit tm ' H ' ' A V y ,, . .
