He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1966 and after tours of duty at NAS Pensacola, Florida and NAS Kingsville, Texas, was assigned in 1968 to USS DALE QDLG 191 ln April 1970 he was assigned as a River Assault Group Senior Advisor and later as Executive Officer of the Fourth Riverine Advisory Group located in CANTI-IO, Vietnam. Upon completion of this tour in May 1971 he attended the U.S. Naval Destroyer School in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon graduation he reported in December 1971 as Operations Officer, USS SELLERS QDDG 111- ,ln 1974, he attended the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Master of Science in Management in 1975. Following a tour in the Bureau of Naval Personnel in the Active Officer Promotions Branch, he attended the U.S- Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1977. From November 1978 through April 1980 he served as Executive Officer, USS PREBLE QDDG 461. In May 1980 he reported fOr duty as Chief Staff Officer to Commander, Destroyer Squadron TWENTY-FIVE Commander LASSITER holds various personal decorations and service medals which include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, Navy Achievement Medal and Combat Ribbon.
