COMMANDING OFFICER CHARLES L. TERRY COMMANDER, USN ASSUMED COMMAND JULY 22, 1978 Commander Charles Lance Terry, son of Whitley C. Terry fdeceased1 and Sara Terry of Sherman, Texas, was born in Dallas, Texas, in 1938 and raised in LaPorte, Texas. A graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in 1960, Commander Terry went on to complete his training for the naval nuclear power program. After a tour in the engineering department of USS KING QDLG 101, Commander Terry returned to the Nuclear Power Training Unit in Idaho Falls, Idaho, as a member of the training staff. He was then assigned to the pre-commissioning unit of USS TRUXTUNCDLGN 351. He attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, earning an MS in Electronics Engineering in December 1971. Following his postgraduate school, CDR Terry was assigned to USS ENTERPRISE CCVN 651 as Reactor Control Assistant, then Executive Officer of the USS PREBLE CDLG 151, followed by a tour as Engineering Officer of the USS LONG BEACH CCGN 91. Commander Terry has been awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation, and the Meritorious Unit Commendation. He is married to the former Katherine Gallagher of Lindenwold, New Jersey. They have two children, a daughter Megan and a son Gregory.

COMMANDING OFFICER MICHAEL P. KALLERES COMMANDER, USN LEFT COMMAND JULY 22, 1978 Commander Michael Peter Kalleres was born in Gary, Indiana, in 1989. A graduate of Purdue University Class of 1962, Commander Kalleres also completed the U.S. Naval War College and Staff Course in 1971, as a distinguished Graduate. While at the War College, he also attended George Washington University Extension and Was awarded a Masters Degree in Public and International Affairs. Commander Kalleres is currently stationed in Washington, D.C. at the Bureau of Naval Personnel. He was the USS DEWEY's Commanding Officer from June 1976 - July 1978. His previous sea billets include Executive Officer of the USS PREBLE KDLG-151, Weapons Officer of the USS SEMMES CDDG-185 11965-681 and CIC Officer of the USS LAFFEY CDD-724Jf1962-645. From 1973-76 he served as Fleet Retention Officer and Human Resource Management Coordinator for CINCPACFLT and from 1968-70 he served in the Bureau of Naval Personnel as an Assignment Officer for Surface Line Junior Officers as Assistant to the Assistant Chief of Naval Personnel for Surface and Submarine Captain Assignments. Commander Kalleres wears a Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V and the Navy Achievement Medal. He is also authorized to wear the Combat Action Ribbon, the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Commander Kalleres is married to the former Georgine Maria Karras of Melrose Park, Illinois. They have one daughter and one son.

COMMODORE DESRON 20 DONALD L. HOWARD CAPTAIN, USNO SHIPS IN COMMAND USS DEWEY CDDG-455 USS JONAS INGRAM CDD-9381 USS TRIPPE KFF-10755 USS AYLWIN CFF-10815 USS BLAKELY QFF-1072 USS CHARLES F. ADAMS CDDG-21 Captain Donald L. Howard, USN, was born in Williamsport and reared in Attica, Indiana. He graduated in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Indiana University. He was commissioned an Ensign in the Navy Reserve and later augmented to regular Navy in 1959. Captain Howard is the son of Mrs. Homer P. Howard and the late Homer P. Howard. A His first assignment was as Communications Officer on USS COMSTOCK QLAD 191. In September 1955, he was transferred to the Naval Reserve Training Center, St. Louis, Missouri, for duty as Administrative Assistant. In October 1958, he commenced duty on USS KAWISHIWI QAO 1465 as Operations Officer and Navigator. In September 1960, he was transferred to the USS O'BANNON QDDE 4505 as Operations Officer. In March 1962, he commenced studies at the Navy Post-graduate School, Monterey, California and graduated in July 1964 with a degree in Meteorology. His next sea assignment commenced in July 1967, he served as Executive Officer on the USS REEVES CDLG 245 and saw extensive Southeast Asia operations. Next, Captain Howard was assigned to the Staff of Commander Naval Forces, Vietnam, from June 1969 to June 1970. From Vietnam, Captain Howard became the first Commanding Officer of the USS BOWEN CDE 10791 on 22 May 1971. In September 1972, with USS BOWEN, on its first operational deployment to the U.S. Sixth Fleet, Captain Howard was detached and attended the Naval War College. Prior to being detailed as Commander Destroyer Squadron Twenty, Captain Howard was assigned to the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations with the Director, Research, Development, Test and Evaluation as his Assistant for International Research and Development. , Captain Howard's decorations include the Bronze Star Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon with Bronze Star in lieu of second award, the Army Distinguished Service Order tVietnam decorationj and the Vietnam Service Medal Cseven starsl. Captain Howard is married to the former Miss Judith Claybourn of Evansville, Indiana. They have two children and make their home in Charleston, South Carolina.
