1255 mtwy Four years ago, in September 19A7, more little Dragons gathered ln the great halls of D H S for their flrst tryout They were plenty green and also plenty scared but so determined to be b1g senlors someday, even though that day dld seem a long way off and the goal almost unobtainable In fact, before the year was over four of them did leave the lot Some of them went to other schools for educatlon and some of them retired to private llfe After the senlors had 1n1t1ated them into the social life of the educa tional world, the little Dragons thought lt would be well to organlze They elected for the1r officers President, Charllne Brown, Secretary treasurer, and reporter, Bonnie Spurlock After election of officers they really got down to business, besides the routlne work such as algebra, h1story, sci ence, etc Several of the pupils joined the band, under the dlT6Ctl0D of Mr Preston Cllfford That same year, one of the girls, Norma Jean Durbin, was choosen May Queen The next year the big executives began to sit up and take notice, for here was no ordinary group of Wwould ben Dragons They were beginnlng to show real promlse and abillty And besides, they really were a lively group ready for fun That year, everything started off right by electlon of an that year 1191+235 were Presldent, John Duncan, Vice President, Melvin Dur bin, Secretary treasurer, Peggy Ford, and Reporter, Wanda Handley The fall of 'L9 found the happy group back together again, eager to start another year of adventure Officers for that year were President, John Duncan, Vice President, Joyce Duty, Secretary treasurer, Lawanda Dur bin, and Reporter, Nettle Lou Titsworth Durlng the year three of the girls dropped out, but three more students,B1ll Compton, Abe McIntosh, and Jackie Crosby, joined the class The juniors got the1r chance at dramatics when the class produced the 3 act play, nAunt Samathy Rules the Roost N They also proved their artistic ab1l1ty when they planned and carried out the social high l1gbt of the year, the banquet for the Senlors The class took a trlp to Turner Falls under the supervision of the1r sponsor, Mrs Stilwell In this, the flnal year, the followlng officers elected to d1rect the class through the most lmportant year President, Betty Bowdler, Vice Pres ident, J R Long, Secretary treasurer, Opal Ruth Robinson, and reporter, Everett wilhlte This year four more classmates journed to other parts Three of them to the servlce and one gave up her school life to be marrled Our sponsors for this year were Miss Averett and Mr Ray The year was begun by lnitlating the Freshmen, something that had been long looked forward to The class flnally proved the1r superiority and acting abillty in pro ducing HBashful Bertie W So we bid a fond farewell to the old home lot and journey forth into the realms of life ZSS7 0 . . . other of the girls, Lawanda Durbin, basketball queen.
