THECORRAL 1955 Published by THE IOURNALISM DEPARTMENT DEVINE HIGH SCHOOL Devxne, Texas I FOREWORD Oilmen search in many places for oil, they search in many waysg by examining geological clues, studying fossils, rocks, and earth faults, scrutinizing photos of miniature earthquakes made by seismologists. when a decision is reached a location is made and a wildcat well is drilled. After oil is struck, the field is developed. Oil is stored, transported to the refineries and then put to use in many ways. Inour schools we also search for oil. Our oil is the wealth of knowledge to be gained, character to be formed, health to be developed, interests to be aroused, and friendships to be made, while we are here. We explore in various fields, we make our locations, we develop our resources, and we refine them. This, then, is the story of our search for oil in 1954-'55. It has been hard work, and sometimes we've had disappoint- ments when we found a 'dry hole, but always our search came back to the right direction and we have struck many gushers. Now we find ourselves remembering only the pleasures we've had as we begin the enjoyment of our roya1ties. The Staff CONTENTS X55 IN APPRECIATION OF 4? We, the annual staff, the student body, and the faculty, take this means of ex- pressing our sincere appreciation of the many contributions of the Shell Oil Company and their employees to our school program and to our community. We are especially indebted to Mr. Glenn J. Pribble who has been most generous with his time, his abilities, and his facilities. He has never been too busy to lend a helping hand to our school endeavors. We appreciate and admire the genuine gentle- man that he is. Pictured above: MR. GLENN I.
