In addition to these, there were two new members, Dorothy Jean Mangum and Joe Duncan. This group with the addition of Jerry Robins, Ludie Faye Waddell, Alma Baker and Leavell Riddle, made up the Junior Class of 1945. On March 8, 1945, the juniors presented Happy Landingsf' This was the first play presented in Devine by a junior class. On May 5, of this same year, this class with their sponsor, Miss Christine Brown, honored the Senior Class with a banquet at the DHS Rancho fthe school cafeteria.j On September 4, 1945, when this group met again at Devine High school, they felt more important than usual. They were seniors and in their minds was the thought that for them there would only be nine more months of high school work and fun. The seniors met on September 11, and elected officers. Glen Dale Estep was elected class president, Ora Lee Berry, vice-president, Wanda Stewart, secretary, Joe Williams, treasurer, and Bettie Sue McBee, reporter. Mrs. G. W. Whitfield was elected class sponsor. There was one new member, Don Newcomb. On December 17, the class was honored with a Christmas Party given by their sponsor, Mrs. Whitfield, in her home. There was a class party on February 5, at the school cafeteria also. In addition to these activities, the seniors published the second edi- tion of The Corral, the high school annual. Eleven members took part in Here Comes the Prince, the senior play. ' At a special class meeting, the class selected as its motto, In our- selves our future lies. Silver and blue were selected to be the class colors and the class flower is gladiolus. Two members of this class decided that their place was with Uncle Sam so our loss of Frank Schneider and Eugene Brown is the Marine Corps' gain. And as this is written, the seniors are looking forward to May 24, 1946, when they will graduate from Devine High School feeling that they will have climbed the first step of the ladder of success.
