The Publication of the Annual Staff Detroit High School 1959 Detroit, Texas In Memoriam PAULA BARNES KING Dedication We, the Annual Staff of Detroit High School proudly dedicate this edition of The Eagle to Mr. Kermit Wommack and Mr. Mason Denton. We respect and admire these men foi their honest concern for each individual student in our school. These men set an example to follow in their daily lives as well as in our class rooms. It is with these thoughts in mind that we dedicate this book to men that are so deserving. BOYCE CAMPBELL Superintendent ’s Message Freedom is directly connected with other values, values that include the good life and the outcomes of civilized liv- ing. Thomas Jefferson made the statement, If a nation ex- pects to be ignorant and free, it expects what never was and never will be. Education is the care of all that has meaning in our time. Keep this book well. You will derive a great deal of pleas- ure from it in future years. Your school days are the happiest days of your life. I am happy to have been your superintendent and teacher. Sincerely yours, nncipal’s Message Dear Students Fruits cannot be grown without the previous planting of seeds. Great leaders do not arise spontaneously in the midst of a people; they come because they have been nourished and developed by conditions and institutions. The seeding times of leadership are the days on the high school and college campus; but the campus does not supply the results, only the hopes and dreams. It is our sincere hope that you who are leaving us, and you who shall remain, will have nourished your hopes and dreams, we hope we have helped plant in you the desire to become the worthwhile citizen and leader we know you are capable of being.
