Coach Cavanaugh When April came, Coach Cavanaugh organized a baseball team. Jerry Bringard was the '53 captain. Up to this time, Country Day has played four games, winning two and losing two. Country Day defeated Lakeview in the first game 12-11, getting six runs in the last inning, climaxed by Tom Hardy's three run triple. In the second game, Jerry Bringard managed Country Day's only hit and the Yellowjackets were defeated by A. E. Smith 7-2. Country Day then beat Huron 6-0 with Ed Gurdjian pitching a four hitter, but Huron came right back three days later and slaughtered Country Day 16-1. twenty-three

But Coach Cavanaugh managed to put a team together with Ed Gurdjian as captain of the '52-'53 team. The Yellowjackets lost their first five games before defeating Lakeview. After this game, Country Day couldn't seem to get going and lost the rest of their regular games. The Yellowjackets then entered the State tournament and won the district title before being defeated by All Saints in the regional tourna- ment. One bright note was that Ed Gurdjian was named on the Detroit Times' all conference team. We of the Yearbook staff feel the team will have better luck next year.
