Seated above is Mr. Richard Krauss, Superintendent. Standing is Mr. Merritt Burke, Principal. Superintendent and Principal Two very important cogs in the wheel are the principal and the superintendent. Both of these men are devoted to improving and in- creasing the school's academic program. The well-adjusted teaching staff and teacher - student co-operation is evidence of sound judgment and guidance on their parts. An ac- tive and sincere interest in students and their problems characterizes both of these men. Administration School Board These board members are representatives of the people, popularly elected to serve as a link between the taxpayers and the educational system. The community owes much to these men who give generously of their time and energies to create and maintain Deshler's fine educational system. Elementary Teachers KINDERGARTEN: Margaret Don- nell. FIRST GRADE: Barbara Schnable, Thelma Papoi, absent. SECOND GRADE: Marjorie Tuss- ing, Ileen Steffen. THIRD GRADE: Ruth Dierickx, Barbara Koehler. An elementary school teacher is a stu- dent's first contact with education. It is in the elementary grades that pupils start to form their opinions and beliefs. The teach- er must start the young pupils on the right path, teaching them the very basics of edu- cation. An elementary teacher is kind and sympathetic, giving her all to her students. She works with her students with patience and understanding. The only reward that she asks is that her students remember her as someone who tried to understand and give them the best beginning education'' possi- ble. The elementary teacher always wel- comes advancement. New methods are always being employed. An example of this is the teaching of various languages to the young pupils and new methods in math and reading. FOURTH GRADE: Hildegarde Scholl, Emma Schortgen. FIFTH GRADE: Elizabeth Schlot- terbeck, Ruth Ellen Fly. SIXTH GRADE: Gladys Borough, Norma Diedrich. 8
