Our fresh- men team edged past Holgate 41-39 in an overtime and brought home the trophy. The cheerleaders were Darlene Steffen, Nonnie Blue, Mary Jane Gerschutz, and Sharon Bishop. 1958- 1959 Our Sophomore year began with a total of 64 members. Our home room was the study hall, and our class advisors were Mr. Meyer and Mr. Stockman. This year we gained three new members. Bill Steele came from Detroit, Michigan; Sue Marchal from Defiance, Ohio; and Patti Friesel from Me Clure, Ohio. We were all very happy and thought ours were the prettiest of any yet. 1959- 1960 At last we were Juniors I Again this year we had 64 members, and, as in the other two years, our home room was the study hall, and our advisors were Mr. Meyer and Mr. Leatherman. During summer vacation that year Robert Mason moved back to New Castle, Pennsylvania. Our class officers were: President Dave Papoi Secretary Jim Burkey Vice President Lester Drewes Treasurer Darlene Steffen On September 12, 1959, our class rings finally arrived. They were everything we thought they would be. Our float, The Spirit Of 1776, won first prize in the Halloween parade. The attendants from our class were Mary Jane Gerschutz and Gary Gribbell. Five boys made Varsity, namely; Howard Powell, John Watson, Lester Drewes, Jim Burkey, and Steve Price. We chose Bali Hai” as our theme and deco- rated the gym in a tropical atmosphere. It really looked sharp! 1960- 1961 Our Senior year—it was hard to believe that it had finally arrived. We began the year with 58 mem- bers. We finally achieved a new home room, Room 24, which is considered to be the Senior home room. For some of us this room had a sentimental value, for it was the room where we began our school career In the first grade. Our class advisors were Mr. Meyer and Mr. Burke. Bill Steele left that summer and went back to Detroit, Michigan. Karen Reese moved to Napoleon, Ohio. Our class officers were: President....................Gary Grlbbell Secretary..............Royetta Beamand Vice President...................Jim Burkey Treasurer................Rob Leiendecker In the Halloween parade our float, Known But To God,” won second prize. This year the attendants from our class were chosen to be the royalty of the parade. King was Lester Drewes and Queen was Darla Rauch. October 17 and 18 were the days we ventured over to Fostorla to have our pictures taken. They ar- rived December 9, we sure were a good-looking bunch of Seniors. October 28, was the day chosen for our Senior class play. We presented Harvey” and the lead rolls were had by Marianne Wensink and Dave Papoi. Mr. Boyer was our director. Five boys made Varsity, namely; Howard Powell, John Watson, Lester Drewes, Steve Price, and Jim Burkey. April 8 thru 13 were the days of our Senior class trip to Washington D. C. We all had a very good time and wish we could take the trip again, only have a longer stay. May 6, 1961, was the date of the Junior-Senior Prom. The Juniors gave us a very nice prom and we appreciated it very much. May 16, today, is Senior Day. It is a day that will be remembered by most of us. It is really the last day of school we will have. May 21, 1961, is the long-waited-for day. Baccalaureate and Commencement will soon be here. It should be a happy day for us, but inside we will all be sad. There are many of our classmates we will never see again. As they all say, I wish I were a Freshman and had it all to do over again.” Will and Testament Friends, teachers, and fellow members of this excellent establishment for personal betterment and heirs of the Senior Class of 1961, city of Deshler, county of Henry, state of Ohio.
