STUDEI1T COUnCIL One of the activities of the Student Council during the year was sponsoring a record dance held on September 27. It was called “Round-up and served as an initiation for the freshmen. Carrying out the western theme, simple decorations con- sisting of a large steer head, some ranch brands, and the word “Round-up were attached to the stage curtains in the multi- purpose room. The young freshmen were branded on the foreheads with green ink. Refreshments were served at the chuck- wagon , a popular spot with the large crowd. The hours of planning, the last-minute rush and worry, and finally our prom itself make up one of our happiest memories. After working all day our minds and bodies were (we thought) too tired to even consider dancing; but even though we were in school, our thoughts couldn't have been farther away from books and studies. Brightly clothed Arabs in distant cities stared from the walls and strange music came from a red and white striped tent in the corner. Couples danced in the shadow of Ali Baba’s cave and paused for punch at a green oasis. Behind one palm tree was incense that failed to burn, but the pale blue light filtering through the gauzy ceiling added the air of mystery that we had sought. Next year there will be another prom, but this is the one we will never forget. Sterling has been in hiding since last month when he was suspected of murdering Moneyless Romaker, who had refused to pay the $2.00 gambling debt, which he owed Slippery. He was seen running from Moore’s Tavern, scene of the crime, by a wit- ness, Marilyn Yantz, the waitress. Miss Bonnie Baughmen, famous dancer of Westhope, and her agent, Butch Koppenhofer, were taken to the Deshler Hospital at 2 a.m. this DEAR MISS TUSSING Dear Miss Tussing: I’m 19 years of age and last month I met the most wonderful man. He’s 6'4 tall, has blond curly hair and big brown eyes. The only trouble is that he is 47 and my parents won’t let me date him. What should I do? Dear Unfortunate: Do just as your parents say. Forget him. Where can I find him? JIT HENS CAUSE MUCH CONFUSION AT FARM Much noise and confusion prevailed at Birdie’s Egg Farm Monday even- ing. All the hens started cackling about 8 p.m. and continued until 11:30 p.m. Don Panning, hired hand at the farm, stated that he believed the chickens were raising all the racket to mimic a group of Miss Hinrich’s friends, who attended a party at her home that evening. SCHOOL BOARD MEETS Superintendent of Schools, Ralph Fry, announced today that a special meeting will be held Monday, June 8 at 7:30 p.m. in his office. They will discuss the addition of an escalator. morning. The Baughman vehicle had side-swiped a parked car as Miss Baughman was leaving the industrial city of Shunk. Police Chief, Willis Schwiebert of Shunk, reported that he had seen a Model T speeding through the city and had taken after it. “Apparently, Miss Baughman had forgotten the turn of Route 18 north of Shunk,’’ said Schwiebert. The automobile was the property of Dennis Fintel, who at the time was fixing a tire on the side of the car opposite the highway. He escaped with minor cuts and bruises. With complete calmness, Miss Baughman brought the Model-T to a stop. Janet Schwiebert Bryant, of the Bryant Wrecker Service, was called to tow both cars to the Bryant Station in Shunk. Beauty Parlor to Replace Department Store Miss March Breece will open a beauty salon next Monday in the former City Hall. Pauline Hoops, former De Hi pole vaulting star, got her first break in the circus by showing her skill on the trapeze bar! She is currently signed with the Dilsaver Circus. Friends of Mr. DuVall may be in- terested in knowing that he is cur- rently employed as a guide for tours through Spain. Mrs. Schwiebert had a long talk with him recently while bicycling through Europe. SENATOR SPEAKS AT LOCAL MEETING Leo C. She stated that there would be many different features in her salon, such as a reducing clinic, eyelash curling department, and a pedicure booth.
