The eighth grade baseball team ar et amngammmpay was expected to do great this year. Most of last year's first place team kids returned to tryouts. The coaches were proud of the turnout at tryouts and said, We had a dif- ficult time choosing the players. The 1987 team had a successful season last year and this year's team was hoping to do just as well. As 'W r always, the DSMS sluggers per- formed well. The girls' seventh and eighth grade track teams each had a Seventh and eighth grade boys' track had a hard time in the wonderful year in both dual meet conferences and state competition, but they had great team spirit, always trying finals. Cross Countr Q Front Row - josh Hartley, Sheri Stockhaus, Samantha Simkins, Wendy Lopez, Rachelle Sinks, Ryan Snepg Row 2 - Ben Rebeske, Stephen Ward, Bob Loughridge, Paul Yarger, Coach Marvin Sacks, Eric Christensen, Owen Comstock, Brian Bereit, Nathan Yarrow. Cross country had a hard year, but Coach Sacks is very proud of the effort they put out and he said, Next year is our year. We had a tough time coming up with people but Coach Sacks made it work. He emphasized team spirit. Comraderie was evident throughout the season. Indi- vidual growth was seen as each team member tried to improve over his pre- vious time. 'I'hey're off!

The coach for the seventh grade baseball team was David Jarvis. He said that he had a difficult time selecting the team because so many talented seventh graders tried out. With all this enthusiasm it's no wonder that Desert Shadows always has outstanding baseball teams.
