The Principals 31 Club is a club in which Mr. Cooper recognizes five students each month who meet the following criteria: service, cooperation, unique contributions to campus life, attitude, and involvement. Each student receives a 1791 Certificate, a letter for their parents, mended and a paper that explains why this student was recom- chosen, and a free lunch from McDonald's during which Mr. Cooper accompanies them.

Academic Achievers DSMS provides an opportunity for students to pursue their academic talents beyond the regular classroom activities. A few of these activities pre- sented on this page are the Pledge Team, Academic Bowl, Youth Authors Day, and the writing contest sponsored by junior Achievement. The 1987 sev- enth grade academic bowl team was the first place district winner. We had two eighth grade students who won 2nd and 3rd place prizes on the Junior Achievement writing contest. Desert Shadows is proud ofthe opportunities offered to students to excell to their potential.
