The Vood Service core area teaches basic information for anyone interested in any part of the food industry. In the sophomore year, a foods student spends two periods a day learninji the basics of sanita- tion, safety, efficiency and food preparation. This includes preparing baked products first semester, and other foods such as soups, salads, sandwiches, pastas, vegetables and meats. The second semester the student tours and studies nutrition, skills in getting and keeping a job, and knife care. The junior year, foods students are in the T- room. Tech s practice restaurant. Here the stu- dents plan meals served to the T-room custo- mers, as well as prepare food in larger quanti- ties, learn front-of-the-house skills such as hostess host, waiter waitress, and cashier duties. The senior year is spent in co-op where the students et on-the-job traininjj as well as credit towards graduation. The co-op assignment var- ies accordinji to each students interest and capabilities.
