SPEECH TEAM DISTRICT CONTEST WINNERS FIVE QUALIFY FOR STATE CONTEST 1979 was an outstanding year for the DLBI-IS speech team! ! During the awards ceremony at the District 8 Speech Contest at Minot the team received the second place team trophy. Finishing with 82 points, the team was outscored by Mohall with 88 points. Five students Joanne Nygard, Julie Hoopman, Leana Cerkowniak, Shelly Kupser, and Chris Veazey also qualified for the State B Speech Contest in Bismarck on April 28 . The one-act play Echo was also presented at the District Contest. Kathy Washek, Lorna Rixen, Rick Vise, and Doug Hoopman were cast members. N 'Q Q Laker fans have school spirit and pride! ! Red jerseys carrying the words LAKER PR1DE were worn by many students to display their team and school loyalty. Outstanding enthusiasm was shown by students and local fans. Cheerleaders led the fans in their school spirit offorts. Winning the Mohall Tournament in January, the Lakers gave the fans an opportunity to ' 'cheer for the champs' ' . Oh, the sweet strains of victory! ! 7kSecuring an overtime victory on Homecoming night the football team gave the fans a chance to yell their lungs out' ' .
