The orchestra and advanced band present the Christmas and Spring concerts in conjunction with the vocal department. Proceeds from these fine per- formances are used for the purchase of new equip- ment and the cleaning of robes and uniforms. In ad- dition the band and orchestra take part in the annual Michigan Band and Orchestra festivals. The groups were graded according to ability and performance. Band I returned in victory after receiving a final rating of first Division. They were then eligible for the All-State festival held in Ypsilanti, and did nearly as well there. The orchestra, however, was not as fortunate. They were given a second divi- sion rating which did not qualify them for the state competition. Several individuals also vied for honors in the Solo and Ensemble Festival held in early April. All grade levels of string players are repre- sented in the orchestra, while only the more adept wind musicians may apply. Honor Society sets high standards for members Honor Society officers this y'ear were headed by president Don Douglas. He was ably sup- ported by his vice-president, Barb Miller, Sue Gruschow, secretary, Paul Anderson, treasurer, and Jim Weinrich, historian. Under the leadership of Society advisor Mrs. Sacha, the group has been involved in many projects this year. The student-faculty basketball game, perhaps the social event of the season, is always a great success. This year, the faculty team, led by high scorer Kil- ler Keller put up a valiant fight, but succumbed in the dying moments of the game to the youth of the student squad. Another project under- taken was the Thanksgiving Dance. Active in many school activities, the members supply ushers at school functions, and help in the lan- guage lab before school. Lillis Taylor, right, helps many morn- ings in the Language Lab.
