FTA LEFT TO RIGHT Sue C tt gba Nelda S mth Maryl Dodso Spo sox' M s E a e Edd T ede Shelba Jea Wat: n Kathy Co and Ma y A-113'-'P In September l957 representatwes from Charrton Derby and Russell met at the Char1ton Hlgh School to rna.ke plans for orgamzmg a County Future Teachers Club It was dec1ded that there would be four meetmgs and each club would be host to the other clubs at one of the meetmgs Off1cers of the county group are Sue Wantland Russell Presldent Marylm Dodson, Derby V1ce Pres1dent and H1stor1an and Loulse Noah of Chanton Secretary Treasurer The county FTA 1s one of the f1rst formed ln th1s sectlon of Iowa and has a.ff1l1at1on w1th the NEA and the Iowa Educatwn Assoc1at1on The group 15 sponsored by the county commlttee on Teachers' Educatlon and Professlonal Standards Members of the comrruttee are Helen McCracken Charlton Chalrman Mrs Wantland Russell Mrs George Evans Derby Betty Yocum and Mrs Ella Herald Charlton The frrst meetmg was held at Derby I-hgh School October 21 1957 The mstalla tlon of off1cers was followed by a speech by Dr Wayland Osborn D1rector Teacher Educat1on and Cert1f1cat1on Department of Pubhc Instruct1on on Cert1f1cat1on and College Entrance Requlrements A pot luck supper was held at Char1ton December 2 1957 An educatlonal f11m Not By Chance' was shown The Russell club was host March 17 1958 w1th a panel d1scuss1on on 'What Qual1t1es Make a Good Teacher? The last meetmg was held Apr1l Z1 1958 wrth a p1cn1c at Lucas An mterestmg talk on What Can I Expect at College? was glven.
