Class Prophecy lt was a lovely day 1n August 1978 and Derby 15 drowsmg under brlght skles when suddenly the town IS alerted by a b11mp wlth news that arouses the town The members of the Class of 1958 arrwed to d1scuss the events of the past twenty years Hardly had the news been announced before a sudd 1 roar was heard and a famlhar face bounced from h1s racer I knew then that lt was none other than Speed K1ng McCann h1s wlfe and f1ve l1ttle McCanns wlth the1r custom bullt racers They ha1l from Daytona Beach Florlda where they have Just broken new speed records The dust barely cleared away when a rocket ahghted atop the school house Floatlng down we saw the renowned Merrll Woods stlll dressed ln a tuxedo whlch he d worn when he had been lntervlewed about hls football team whlch was playlng 1n the Rose Bowl Wzth hmm was Marllyn Evans 1nternat1onally known Soprano who was dressed m an exqu1s1te evemng dress She had just made her Arnerlcan debut at the Metropolltan Opera Company after an e1ght years absence ln Europe where she 18 known as Madame Lllle Camllle Next we met Trudy Woods who 18 drlvmg a Cad1llac and pullmg a traller ln whlch 1s her stalhon Ishmael who 15 co starred wlth her ln ' Green Grass of Wyommg ' W1th her was Conme Smlth who was dlscovered by a talent IS returmng to Iowa where she w1ll glve up her career Do you suppose a young man would have anythlng to do w1th 1t'? We couldn t guess could we'7 Next we met another Broadway star Larry Church who marrled an 1m portant producer's daughter about 12 years ago S1nce then he has been marr1ed slx tunes but th1s 1s understandable smce he had trouble flndlng the rlght glrl 1n hlgh school W1th Larry was John Tledemann who 18 a cattle lung ln Texas He became mterested 1n cattle by readmg Westerns Earnestlne Teater who 1s now Mrs Hysell drove up from Mlssourx wlth Harold and thelr 12 boys She fmally got that football team Earnestme told us that Shelba Watson would not be able to be w1th us smce she 15 a L1eutenant Colonel ln the WACS We were glad to see Maryhn Dodson who remamed ln Derby and IS teach lng Home Econom1cs We see she made It Wh1le everyone was welcomxng her Tab Eddle T1edemann arrlved 1nform1ng us that he was now starrmg W1 Anlta Mansfleld W1th Ed was O11 m1ll1ona1re Denms Brown who struck o1l by pushlng a stlck mto the ground After everyone v1s1ted we all sald good mght and went home knowmg that everyone had a good t1me We all hope to renew thls reumon 1n another twenty years 4 . , , .
