C LASS HISTORY On September fxrst 1945 fxfteen pupzls entered these Halls of Learmng ln se arch for an Qducatxon We were consxdered the most stupxd class who ever enter ed but ve ww ren t d1scouraged because we had'hopes of lmprovmg wxth age There were Georgxa Teater Conme McCann Mary Louxse Hart Hazel Didier Ferne Davenport .Terry Frantz Rolland Funk Rzchard Halferty Kexth Rouse Robert Shanks Carroll Toll Fred D attllxo La Verne Martm John Snook and Darl Wolett The teachers who started us on our way rn hxgh school were Superxntendent Mr A M W1111ams Prmcxpal, Mrs Carlos Kxpper Instructors Mlss Mrldred Axry and Mxss Madge Barrett Our class offlcers were Presxdent Rolland Funk Vxce Presxdent Mary Lomse Hart Secretary and Treasurer Hazel Dxdler Mxss Axry was our class sponsor We started our Sophomore year by gaxnmg some classmates They were Ferne Church and Kenneth Patrxe We also lost an actwe pupll Robert Shanks Our teachers were Superlntendent Mr A M Wxlhams, Prmclpal Mxss Ohve Peterson Instructor Mr G E Wright We elected new class offxcers who were Presxdent Mary Loulse Hart, Vxce Presxdent Rolland Funk Secretary Carroll Toll Treasurer Georgza Teater Mr Wrxght was chosen for the class sponsor We kept the motto whxch we had adopted m the fxrst year 'Dxffxcult IS Easy lmposslble Takes Longer The teachers can probably confirm thxs motto ln several ways sxnce xt IS nearly xmpossxble for a class to have so much vlgor and vxtalxty and not let some of xt escape In the fall of 47 we came back to school eager to renew our acquamtances and to get under way our many actnv1t1es for the year We lost two more classmates thms year Ferne Church who went to Cambrxa and La Verne Martxn who Jomed the Axr Force ln April 1948 8 We lost one pupil, Keith Rouse, that year. . . . We started our Junior year with a n w faculty They were Superintendent Mr J'ohn MCGIIVTCY Principal Mr Carl Varner lnstructor Miss Florence Goble Our class officers for the year were President Carroll Toll Vice Yresxdent Jerry Frantz Secretary Georgia Teater Treasurer Fred D attxlzo Our class sponsor was Mr Varner Our class play was given OctoberZ3rd The Antics of Andrew was held in Kirk s Hall This h1lar1ous comedy was coached by Mr McG11vrey and the whole class had a wonderful time producing it Ve then began to plan for the big event of the year the Junior Senior Banquet which was held at the Country Club near Charlton on May the 7th school hoping to make this our last year in Derby High School Three new members were added to our teaching staff and Mr Varner became Superintendent They were Mrs Dorothy Varner Miss Jennie Pell and Mr Floyd W Lancaster Our class officers were President Jerry Frantz Vice President Fred D attilio, Secretary Rolland Funk, Treasurer Betty Neal Mr Varner was our class sponsor Mr Cochran came down from Des Moines and took our class pictures We were all quite pleased with the results We gave our Senlor Class Play Love Inc on April Z9 1949 which was coached by Mrs Dorothy Varner The Juniors honored us with the annual J'un1or Senior Banquet on May lOth Baccalaureate Services were held at the Methodist Church on May 15th We said a sad but cheerful good by on May the 16th 1949 when we received our diplomas at the Commencement Exercises May we tak this opportunity to thank all of our teachers who so graciously helped us through our high school years 9 With only nine of our pupils left and one new girl, Betty Neal, we started to
