Before the pretentious portals of the new Derby High 5Cl'l1i4+l in the mem. rable year of '26, a bewild- ered but audacious group of Freshmen gazed at this edifice. which was to he their joy and sorrow for four whole years. After spending about a mouth wandering aimlessly through the halls and becoming acquainted i-:ith rooin numbers and various objects-as the human skeleton in Klr. Hetternans closet-we settled down to actual work under the confusing rotating schedule. commencing with the llffYEl task of carving our initials 1-n the desks. liivlluwing our debut at the customary junior reception. we gained sudden prestige by actually giving a social and revealing our talent in a long- rentenibered stage presentation. Ft.-:l'oi's: -iiziilarly tn-so Sf pfzomore repwrters gra:ed the Lockout staffg and athletics became a topic of con- siderable importance amcng the boys. The class officers were: Thomas Reilly,-presidentg Harry Lugg, vice-president: Abraham lX'ebber, secre- tary: Thomas Van Etten, treasurer. fuczmd Jznziors. Our noses were a trifle more elevated. The inys- teries of life and love were no longer veiled. We fos- tered an unusual tenderness for the Freshmen, and swelling with our own power, we gave them a recep- tion. XYell satisiied with school in general, we won added importance in the newly-organized Student Council and basked in the exaltation of actually staging a play entitled Honor Bright -an attraction of the season. Then came the climax-the long awaited junior Prom which was one grand flourish to a full year. The class officers ccnstituted: Harry Lugg, presi- dent: Francis Corcoran, vice-president: Charles Col- lins, treasurer. Stately Smiiors. llail the grave and reverend Seniors! Sophistica- ticn and knowledge hath laid their hands upon our fur- rowed brows. VX'hat a grand and glorious feeling it is to be gazed at in admiration and to sense the responsi- bility placed upon our shoulders!
