GIRLS SPORTS During the year many of the girls have active parts in the play days and tournaments. There have been approximately twenty playdays for the school year 1940-41. Better than half of the Junior and Senior high girls took part in at least one playday and in many cases, five or six. The procedure for organizing a playday usually comes about as follows: two schools correspond and decide to meet on a Saturday for basketball, volleyball, tennis, archery, speed- ball, or a combination of these or other games. Quite often a lunch is served, after which there is social dancing. Last fall the girls had an especially interesting 12-school meet with prac- tically every fall sport.in evidence. Tournaments are conducted in table tennis, badminton, tennis, archery, tenniquoits, volley- ball, basketball and softball. For participation in these tournaments points are awarded and under the present system set up by the Girls' Athletic Association, it is possible for a girl to earn a letter even though there no longer is girls' varsity basketball. A girl may also earn points in hiking, winter sports, bicycling, horseback riding and noon hour care of the chil- dren on the playground. Sixty-five girls ,are working for their letters and about twenty of these have already earned one. 65 points are required for a letter.
