Q K, 3 N 1 I Q. S0 in ,X-A-as OUR LAST YEAR AT D.C.I-I.S. In September 1940 we returned to our Alma Mater to take our place as exalted Seniors. At the class election we gave Charles Moleski another year as President to be assisted by Blanche Barre as Vice-President, with jackson Bennett and Mary Ella Dailey as Secretary and Treasurer respectively. At the same meeting we assed Mr. Schroeder to be our adviser and in a weak moment he consented. Our first business was the selection of our class ringsg and after viewing the wares of several salesmen we arrived at a laudable choice. Soon after this we invited the public to attend a Southern Ham Supper in the cafeteria. As a result of this we found ourselves fifty dollars nearer our goal. All this time, lna Silvey and Charlie Moleski had been having a flourishing candy business in the second floor corridor ar noon. Then we turned oui' attentions to a bakesale, an encouraging affair which gained a few dollars for the treasury and much experience for the Seniors. Saturday, November 2, found us hosts at a Round and Square Dance-a victory dance following the Hancock game. To liven up the holiday week-end, we had a Rollerskating Party at Donovan's Hall on November ll. This brisk fall weather found Senior salesmen all over town selling our colossal Christmas cards and Christmas wreaths. The real Italian spaghetti supper was our last function of the semester, for the next morning we received fatal news. But after a quarter of real plugging we staged a glorious comeback with a repeat performance of our Southern Ham Supper .ind another bakesale fully as good as the first one. Now we were ready for the social event of our year-The Sunbonnet Dance. Amid breath-taking decorations, and to the tunes of Don Mapes, we presented the best semi-formal ever held in the school. lt was a success in more than one way. Before these super-special decorations hardly were down, we were more than occupied with the operetta, The Sunbonnet Girl, which we had anticipated all year. Since it had to be seen to be appreciated, we'll omit the details both socially and financially. We staged it also in Windsor in return for their Senior play, Yours Truly Willie. NVQ: ended up our financial activities with the Strawberry Festival. May 29 we found 36 snappy Seniors and our advisers at school raring to go fand it was only 6:30j and we went! We went to New York and did everything we planned and then a little more. lt was reluctantly we left New York that Sunday afternoon to return to our school and our teachers, but we had Commencement to look forward to so we dug in to make the best of our last few weeks here. For the present, that is all. Our six hundred dollars has been spent, the goal we are working for now is more distant than the one we had when we entered I3.H.S., and now our days in high school are past and are only a part of history. So: All Hail! To Time, Well Spent. -1 'u fu Sept Sept Sept Sept. Sept. Oct. Oct. Oct. Nov Nov. The Class of 1943 is proud of its having sold more pencils than any other Sophomore Class. We sold 1000 pencils which earned for us 525. In the second semester we sponsored for the lirst time in the history of school a contest to collect bread coupons, offering very substantial prizes to those collecting the most. Prizes were won by Mary Atwood and Mary Lou Eagan. The class earned about S20. As this book goes to press the Sophomore Class expects to sponsor at least one more function. Walter Lee. Guided by Mr. Fox, they should give a good account of themselves in League Competition. The Lumberjacks paced by Vere Conklin, won the Championship of the Susquehanna League, thus boost- ing the total of Basketball championships to 7 in 10 years. TRACK Due to the early publication of this Yearbook before a Track schedule was released, the 1941 schedule will be omitted. But tentatively the Track team will compete with practically the same schools that they did last year. Although last year was Lee Conklin's first year on the Track team he was good enough in the quarter mile to push Jack Sliter, holder of D. C. S. quarter mile record, to a new record each time they competed. Lee should do great things this year. Included on the track roster are Ralph Hall, Elwin VanValkenburg, and Vere Conklin, members of last year's team. Among the newcomers are a few promis- ing prospects who should develop rapidly due to the able coaching of Mr. Kent, and Mr. Sutliff who will assist Mr. Kent this year. if Y if ,k ..aU, Nig4 'n' 4 ' v 4 'Q Q '. Via! L Q 4, ' ,K ' ' w M Q-' X nf A Q rf A Q 1 . GIRLS SPORTS During the year many of the girls have active parts in the play days and tournaments. There have been approximately twenty playdays for the school year 1940-41. Better than half of the Junior and Senior high girls took part in at least one playday and in many cases, five or six. The procedure for organizing a playday usually comes about as follows: two schools correspond and decide to meet on a Saturday for basketball, volleyball, tennis, archery, speed- ball, or a combination of these or other games. Quite often a lunch is served, after which there is social dancing. Last fall the girls had an especially interesting 12-school meet with prac- tically every fall sport.in evidence. Tournaments are conducted in table tennis, badminton, tennis, archery, tenniquoits, volley- ball, basketball and softball. For participation in these tournaments points are awarded and under the present system set up by the Girls' Athletic Association, it is possible for a girl to earn a letter even though there no longer is girls' varsity basketball. A girl may also earn points in hiking, winter sports, bicycling, horseback riding and noon hour care of the chil- dren on the playground. Sixty-five girls ,are working for their letters and about twenty of these have already earned one. 65 points are required for a letter.
