As members ofthe Deport School, our part played upon that stage this year has been, in spite of a few acts we would change were we to play the parts again, rich and satisfying. As you are aware, it is impossible to record every scene, butthe staff has worked with the idea in mind to get a representative view of the moments of gaiety and excitement, tensions and anxiety - - and certainly to preserve the highlights of the 1963 September-to-May drama of your school life. Qeofcafzon MRS. CHARLES MARTIN MR, WELDON HUME In appreciation for their friendly, constant, capable service in guiding us in the vocational field, we dedicate the 1963 Acorn to Mrs. Charles Martin and Mr. Weldon Hume. I am sure that you, as students, and your parents are aware of the importance of a good education. But education in itself will not assure suc- cess and happiness. There are many other factors that enter in--when we think of the ingredients that make for success and happiness. There was once a :nan who was obsessed with the idea that there was a secret known to those who achieved success. To discover this secret, he devoted years to study and research. Ancient Masonry, philosophyy astrology, psychology, sales- manship, religious beliefs, the various cults that have had their rise and fall--all these he studied long and diligently. Finally he gave his conclusion, and it came in two short words: HI will! Many of the tales we hear about Lincoln, Edison, and others, when analyzed, dwindle down to the ability to work hard. These men labored long into the night and diligently throughout the daylight hours mastering problems that stood between the cru de mechanisms and utilities of their time and the comforts and conveniences of today. I hope that you have spent long hours of hard work this past year because in so doing, you have found the formula for a happy and successful life in the future. The people that I have found most successful in life are those who are cheerful and hopeful--those who have gone about their business with smiles on their faces--those who have taken chances of their mortal life like men, facing rough and smooth alike as it came, thus witnessing to the old proverb that good times and had times and all times pass over.
