Ed Rybak The whole story of a football campaign can never be told by a teams record alone This was the cose with the grid Wildcats who won only two of their eight starts but proved to be one of the finest offensive elevens in the conference Certainly the season did not lack thrills the 3l T3 drubbing of East Aurora the near upset of mighty Orchard Park Kenny Mulrs outstanding performance that earned a 3319 victory at Lake Shore and the spectacular scoring play of Cefali to Rybak to Krickovich. Easily the outstanding Wildcat was Captain Ed Rybak who again won all star team honors at end. Dick Brogowski and Bernie DiPizio climaxed fine seasons by being selected to the guard positions on the dream team. With only three regulars graduating Depew is certain to be one of the major powers in the conference next year. 67 ga. -vu ,x r 7 -hw. Paliwodzinski VARSITY BASKETBALL Although only two members ot last year's squad have returned, the basketball Wildcats proved to be one ot the tinest of D.H.S. quintets. Boasting a well balanced tive that specializes in flawless set shooting and a pair of hard driving guards, the Wildcats lost only three of their first ten games. Certainly they also proved that pressure only increases their ability, by taking three straight wins by a single tally, cli- maxed by a thrilling Sl-50 triumph over arch-rival Lancaster. Captain Stan Kosikowski, the high scoring Wildcat forward, and detensive ace Ed Rybak are the only lads with previous experience in varsity warfare. Jerry Ogledzinski, the most improved Wildcat, and his net-swishing set shot, were a key factor in every win. Towering six and a halt feet above the hard- wood, center Norbert Moch has been the rebounding star tor Depew. Guard Bob Paliwodzinski's driving lay-ups and iump one-handers have established him just behind Kosikowski in scoring. BASKETBALL A Came dawn to earth, Ron Planning strategy tor Friday The little Wildcats, under the expert tutoring ot Mr. Tomczak, experienced some rough going during cage season. Their defeats can largely be traced to the inexperience ot the key personnel. Joe DiPizio, Bob Takacs, Joe Rybak, and Captain Don Kwok are in their tirst year of basketball wars, while Terry Dugan, Tony Muscalo, John Woods, and Ron Pyc have each had a single year of experience. Win or lose, the Junior Varsity five nearly always give an excellent account of themselves, Perhaps the sole exception would be Terry Dugan's exploit at Maryvale, where he narrowly missed a lay-up at the wrong end of the court. The Wildcats, under the leadership of Mr. Harry Mari- nelli, won five of their first eight matches, thanks largely to the outstanding performances ot Captain Ken Muir, Dick Brogowski, and Doug Deming. Sophomores John Krickovich, Zenon Norek, and Mike Potoczak furnished the matmen with fine young talent, while Juniors Danny Rhoads and Doug Deming gave the Wildcats a fine combination in the l27 and l22 pound events.
