Every Rebel can agree that Mr. Philip Popish has been an asset to our school. His familiar voice enlightening and informing us each week over the PA. system, as well as his comforting figure in the hall insuring that there are no problems, have made him a well-respected in- dividual. Fairness and guidance exude from him continually. His kindness, consideration, and action have made him very much appreciated these past four years at South. Before he joined us, Mr. Popish taught crafts at Byers junior High, and was later their assistant prin- cipal. Originally from Globeville, Colorado, Mr. Popish graduated from Manual High School, continued his education with a Bachelors degree in lndustrial Arts from Colorado State University, and a Masters degree in Psychology from Denver University. Mr. Popish served in the U.S. Marine Corps, first division. His troops went on landings to the Pacific theater on the Pacific Islands. Dn these risky landings, only a small percentage of the men survived, and Mr. Popish went on several of these landings. In his free time, Mr. Popish exhibits his carpentry skills. He builds many projects with his two sons, Mike and Bill. He also spends his summers building homes, One project Mr. Popish undertook in 1964 with Mr. Darwin Lingle was building two campers, one for each of them. Mr. Popish, his wife, Georgia, and their boys used their camper extensively. Mr. Popish is very actively involv- ed with his whole family and is close to his brothers. Mr. Popish is famous for the dill pickles he makes from an old family recipe. Out of the kitchen, he spends his time gardening, working with stained glass, bowling, fishing, and taking lots of walks with his Ger- man Shepherd, lake, whom he adores. Mr. Popish has upheld the image of a good natured, secure, and helpful person. His wide range of interests shows his open-mindedness. All these wonderful qualities are just a fraction of the personali- ty we've all grown so close to. For these contribu- tions, and countless unnamed others, we honor you, Mr. Popish, with the Dedication of the 1984-85 lohnny Reb.
