Each class elected its own members from fourth hour classes to this council. These members assisted the students who had already been elected to Senate offices. The councils provided fresh and different ideas to benefit the school and added an important element as more voices and ideas were heard. Activities produced through such groups and their efforts were more satisfactory to everyone. junior class council member Todd Grayson stated, 'lt opened my eyes to what Senate was doing, and l got more involved in my school. Cupid's Arrows Fl for Rebel Ladies The Red Cross Club once again spon- sored the traditional Cupid's Beau Dance, held on February 14. This was the only girl-ask-guy dance throughout the year. Pleshette Fambrough, President of the Red Cross Club, worked with other members to make this dance a successful one. Refreshments were donated by King Soopers, and Mark Shuman played popular hits to entertain the dancing Rebels. Highlighting the evening was the cor- onation of the Cupid's Beau King, Iosh Kuhn, attended by Dennis Masel, lay Ford, lim Quinn, and limgganlan. Senate Pulls the Year Together S The 1984-85 Student Senate was actively involv- ed in all aspects of student life. Under the direction of Miss lody Skoog, new activities director and art teacher, Senate worked hard to fulfill its goals for the year, better communication, more student in- volvement, and more community involvement were a few. With the leadership of All-school- President, Sean Brooks, and All-school-Vice- President, Beth Law, Senate sponsored activities which increased student knowledge, a Suicide Prevention Seminar and a Health Week helped to enrich students' minds. A slide show, which was created by Dr. Paul Ton, was commissioned by Senate so that new students could learn the history that makes South so special. ln conjunction with the PTSA, Senate instigated a program to inform the community of the happenings at South through brochures. One of the largest projects Senate took on was the redecorating of the Community Room, in order to provide a more comfortable place for everyone to meet and work. Class Councils were introduced for the first time this year, so that Senate could better complete its tasks and have resources to raise and promote participation. Along with all of these tasks, Senate sponsored dances, a canned food drive, a carnival, and spirit weeks in the tradition of activity planning. For all of its hard work, Student Senate was rewarded with a more informed and more active student body.
