The third annual Computer Dance, sponsored by the Student Senate, vvas held on October 2 during periods seven and eight. Excited Rebels packed into the South Gym ready to rock with their 'lmatch matesff Each student received a computer printout of hisfher ten most compatible dates at South High School. The information was based on a questionnaire completed by students earlier in the year. A rented sound system provided the beat and pop was sold to refresh the dancers. The dance was quite a hit with all the Rebels, and many found a new date for the Friday night blues. A large turnout made the dance successful. Student Senate members Felicity Hatcher and Beth Law had fun posing as well as supervising. ACTIVITIES f 23

if N. me g X , ...ws lerriLee Thompson rides in the BSA. car in the parade. A couple enjoys the Homecoming Dance. David Geist decorated a car for the annual Homecoming Parade. The theme for South High's 1984 Homecoming was PPurple Reign. Classes were dismissed early on October 12 so that South's Rebels could par- ticipate in the activities on the west lawn before the Homecoming game. Booths set up by various clubs and even faculty members offered candy, pop, and caramel apples. Student Senate supervis- ed a kissing booth, and others featured balloons, face-painting, and sweatshirts. The highlight of the afternoon was the Homecoming parade of decorated cars through Washington Park, up to Evans and Downing, and back to South. Prizes were given in a car decorating contest to senior Georgia Evridis, junior Maria Miranda, sophomores Michelle Martin, and teacher Terri Mendenhall. Senior Keith Kottenstette was chosen as the all- school winner. Following the parade, South's marching band led the Pep Club, students and faculty in a march to the stadium where the football team added to the day's excitement with a 19-12 victory over West. Halftime activities featured the formations made by the band and Pep Club, and the coronation of Homecoming King, Scott Morse, and Homecoming Queen, Jackie Rush. South's Rebels, parents, facul- ty, and South alumni showed their proud spirit dur- ing all of the events of Homecoming, 1984, where purple truly 'lreignedf'
