Rebels Explore the Dutdoors morn-ll-pls-gm Front, l-r: Amy Russell, jennifer Dunn, Kim Fosnight, Back: lim Levinson, Walter Gresham, Anne Speck, Kristy Eklund Balarat is the name of the mountain property, near Jamestown, Colorado, that is owned by the Denver Public Schools. The property is used as an outdoor education center for all Denver Public School students. High school students that participated in the Balarat Resident Counselor Program went to Balarat three times a semester and stayed for two days each time. The counselors guided fifth grade students for their two day stays, teaching them the history of the Balarat property, a few survival skills, and the identification of various plants and animals that might be found in the Rocky Mountain region. Students from all Denver Public High Schools par- ticipated in the Resident Counselor Program this year. jim Wright, the administrator of the program, selected and trained the counselors. Seniors Clean Up!! The class of '85 held the annual Senior Car Wash on September 22 in South's west parking lot. Senior Senate members Beth Law, Kerri Lombardi, Felicity Hat- cher, leff Arnold, lill Kaminsky, and Sean Brooks were responsible for organizing and leading the event, although many turned out to help with the clean-up. Although customers were not charged for having their cars washed, the seniors raised S202 for the senior class fund. The day was not only a successful money raiser, but a lot of fun for everyone involved. loe Straub lends a helping hand to benefit his classmates. 6 Grego shows that the class of '85 gratefully onations. The third annual Computer Dance, sponsored by the Student Senate, vvas held on October 2 during periods seven and eight. Excited Rebels packed into the South Gym ready to rock with their 'lmatch matesff Each student received a computer printout of hisfher ten most compatible dates at South High School. The information was based on a questionnaire completed by students earlier in the year. A rented sound system provided the beat and pop was sold to refresh the dancers. The dance was quite a hit with all the Rebels, and many found a new date for the Friday night blues. A large turnout made the dance successful. Student Senate members Felicity Hatcher and Beth Law had fun posing as well as supervising. ACTIVITIES f 23
