The infectious spirit of the cheerleaders and the vivacious whirling of the Pom-Pom girls keyed the student body to a high pitch of excitement. After coaches of the teams added encourage- ment and assurance, South's Number-One Rebel Rouser, Mr. Lort, received standing ovations for his customary pep talks. Humorous and satirical skits by faculty and students always gave the supporters a hilarious preview of the game. t 9.'lP'!f!. Head Boy Bob Bishop, presiding over the Student Council Assembly, welcomes the new sophomores to South. Assemblies Assemblies have a variety of purposes during the year. At the beginning of school the Student Council presented an assembly to acquaint the student body with the school officers and to ex- plain the duties and responsibilities of the Council. On October 15 the International Relations Club of South, whose purpose is to promote a better understanding of international affairs, presented Terry Rand, one of the American All- Star basketball players who toured Russia in 1958. Mr. Rand spoke on his trip and showed interesting slides to complement his talk. Both of these assemblies were informative cmd purpose- ful, and helped to make better school citizens. r 1 L, 2 Q l 2 ' F '- X gif . l le. t Bill Walden, Bob Iohnston, Denny Reitz and Neil Hutcheson, disguised as baseball play- ers, render Coney Island Baby cmd Pootie Poo for the Student Council Assembly.
