The Senior Military Society is composed of members who have completed two years of R. O. T. C. and has as its aim the study of advanced military problems under the guidance of Colonel Hill. This club is one of the newest organizations at South. The club's commander is George McMorris: sec- ond in command is Ralph Merritt. The club took part in the clothes drive. paper drive and the scrap drive, which were outstanding contributions to the war effort this year.

Mgn Sociafcilour Commiffee Friday night has become Rebel Night for South High students. It is a night filled with fun, food, and jive in our gyms. The newest svving recordings by famous bands are played, and at times the school echoes with the strains of guest bands. Row 1: J. Young, F. Young. Row 2: Oberg, Evans. Scott, Madsen. Mr. David brainerd and a capable committee -Betsy Jo Giger, Nancy Hodge, Vernor Eliason, and Bill Saunders-plan the Friday Night Social Hours and see that the Rebels have a good time in Southern style. Spealera Service gureau i One of the most popular service clubs of South High is the Speakers Service Bureau. This club, sponsored by Mr. Gerald Willsea, gains speech experience by speaking to the school on drives, ticket sales, etc. The club also goes to other schools and organizations in the city to speak. To become a member of the Speakers Service Bureau one has to have had previous speech instruction, better than average grades, and the recommendation of Mr. Willsea. This service club is open for both boys and girls.

Counci! bers take an active part in South's safety program and help at fire drills. They are also in charge of the halls during class hours and assist at school assemblies. Safety Council boys also usher at many evening programs. .742 'LS' CM The S Club, the sport club of South, is sponsored by Mr. Finis Ketcham. The club mother is Miss Helen Burnham. The club, under the leadership of Dick Yates, president, and Chris- tie Chicadus, secretary and treasurer, has had a successful year. Any boy who has made a letter in any varsity sport is eligible for initiation into the club. The main activity this year was the Father and Son night which was attended by many South students and their fathers.
