It is even moreg it is a preview of the tasks ahead. The indus- trial frontiers of the nation have hardly been tapped. Social work, research, business pre- sents a worthy challenge. American youth can face the future confidently, relying upon their excellent physical, mental, and spiritual equipment. You have a challenge! The football team which brings each year to the high school a spirit of comracieship and team-work w hic h is so important in life, and to each player who daily sacri- fices his tim e and energy to make the team p o S sible. This has been a momentous year in the annals of world history. Possibly no student body in the Denver City High School has been more challenged by the many problems of a war-torn world. On the other hand, you have been inspired by the sacrifice and selfless devotion to the American ideals of the men and women serving and fighting and dying in the defense of our nation. The g am e ne s s with which you have faced the peculiar uncertainness of the times has been en- couraging to all of us who stand on the sidelines and wish you well. You have lived and planned and played with such resoluteness that we feel sure that our country will be in safe hands when it be- comes yours to take over the helm. I hope for each of you the best of everything in the years that lie ahead. In the experiences and problems that appear on each new horizon there will be found opportunities for personal d e v e lo pm e nt, for service, and for achievement, which will challenge every student to the upmo st. To the teachers and adminstrators there is as great a challenge in the opportunity to aid, to encourage, to stimulate, and to direct the student facing for the first time the New Horizons. The Adminstration accepts the challenge. . J. 'fa-fa. Principal Sinc erely, 'VLJE' Superintendent BOARD OF EDUCATIO Mr Mr Mr Mr Mr Mr. Mr I. McCarty, pres. Jack Akin, v. pres C. Reed, sec. F. The s ocial side of the group means going to a Christmas party, going carolling and having a spring picnic in the park. Sundown decided they didn't want us to have District, and it was a great challenge all the way. The team which was out to meet the challenge was made up of Clarence Reed, Tommy Allison, Pat Casey, Richard Souter, Charles Ward, Bob Moore, Dick Moore, john Dale Curtis, Eli Casey, james Motley, jackie Luton. This gave Coach Head a five-man starting line-up, any which could be counted on to turn in a swell performance. Second team members with Coach Emler were Eli Casey, john Dale Curtis,James Motley,-Iackie Luton,Marian Allen, Doyle Scott, Robert Moore, Dale Lambert, Paul Prather, and Billy joe McGlasson. The earlier district games were decidedly in the Mus- tang's favor. This was in a large measure due to the prac- tice and training which our team had received through par- ticipation in the Brownfield, Sundown, and Odessa tourna- ments, Their first district game was played with Se a gr ave s with the Mustangs on the big end of 54-24. Out of the twenty-five games played this season, we lost only five. Prospects for next year look even better. Four of the starting five, Reed, Allison, Souter, and Ward, Will r etur n and only one , Pat Casey, will be lost through graduation. With this ma t e r i al and Coach Wilson Head, Denver City High School can look fo rwar d to a splendid basketball line up in 1952.
