Gail Saxon, Jesse Gonzalez, John Foster, and Judy Samus- son meet in a special commit-- tee to discuss ideas and plans for one of the many beneficial projects of the Council. Great interest was aroused by the Council's beautification proj- ect, and the annual Christmas program was successful as a result of individual student participation. The purpose of the Student Council is to unify the student body, to encourage democracy, and to develop leadership, responsibility, and school spirit. It also sponsors a school orientation program each year for the new students at Dentsville. It is a medi- um for student expression, and a means by which a spirit of cooperation between the faculty and students can be established. Further purposes are to promote student activities, and to improve inter-school rela- tionships. David Murphy discusses plans with Mr. Derrick in the guidance office. Curious students get to the root of the attractive results-of the school beautification project of the Stu- dent Council. 77
